Hello,
We've recently added the OCLC discovery integration to our ADD RESOURCE button within the reading list. It's a significant improvement on searching the Nielson database. However, it currently searches our own holdings only. We would ideally like the world-wide search function included at some stage...if possible.
Thanks
Nick
Nick, Hazel, all,
We are looking to provide options to search NBD and/or your discovery systems during our next theme for expanding the Add Resource capability. While we will want to do some discovery with you, we are already looking at ways to differentiate different sources during our current bookmark redesign which may pave the way for this vision.
See you in the new year
Kate and Aspire Product Team
Hi, this is something we will review as part of our Bookmarking improvements in 2024. Best, Georgia
Just to provide the alternative perspective on this: for us at Oxford Brookes, having the default search on the OCLC integration being only of our holdings is definitely our preference. With the Nielsen search, our biggest problem was lecturers failing to distinguish between resources we did have in stock and those we didn't (even when we did, for example, have another edition or version of the same resource in stock, they'd still select the one we didn't hold).
If the worldwide search does get included at some point, we would want the worldwide results very clearly separated out from the local holdings, with the local holdings appearing first, and very self-explanatory labelling of the two (eg "Items held by your library", "items not held by your library".
