My understanding is that List Creators are not automatically assigned as List Owners because one client requested that this be so. However, it would be great if there could be a toggle where clients could choose. We are trying to make list creation as easy as possible for faculty and them having to remember to assign a list they just created to themselves is another piece of overhead that in our case doesn't make sense.
Having an owner to all lists, makes it easier to identify who to contact if a list needs updating and reassigning if a member of staff leaves. It will also enable peer pressure and competitive nature to motivate creators to keep their lists up to date.
