At the University of Bristol we're also using the workaround of changing the email address before withdrawing. This is very time consuming, and often has to be put to one side for more important work - meaning that wel have a backlog of live scans that are no longer required.

This would also be useful at the University of Bristol. Our subject librarians find it convenient to have all lists in their areas of responsibility available to them through My Lists - not only for convenience of access, but also as a handy way to see what has been updated recently. Whenever a new SL takes up a post (or an existing SL takes on a new area of responsibility), there is a time consuming process of visiting each list and adding it manually.

This idea is under review. We would be interested to know if you feel having information like this would cause confusion to students as to whether the library holds the items or not. If you do have feedback then please do add your comments as we would like to understand this more.

My original motivations for raising this idea were:

    1) We'd had a very strong reaction against using Amazon links, from our academics. On the other hand, we felt that the other potential suppliers wouldn't necessarily have the same range (potentially leading to the situation described by Rachel below).

    2) Some of our undergraduate UX testers felt that the links implied that students *should* be buying books for their courses - which conflicted with a "no hidden costs" campaign that was being run by the Students' Union.

WorldCat was suggested as a relatively neutral alternative.

In the meantime, our situation has changed somewhat (!), and we are in the process of implementing OCLC's WMS as our library management system - so WorldCat will effectively be our discovery service, For this reason, we would probably be more likely just to switch the bookstore option off altogether than replacing it with a WorldCat link. However, I suspect that other institutions may still benefit from this idea.

The requesting of documents is something Talis are working towards. Currently Talis Aspire Digitised Content only enables you to upload materials that require copyright clearance, but the Talis Player will not only enable you to upload material that needs to be copyright cleared, but also other materials.

Talis have been working with beta partners to develop this, and we will keep you up to date with the wider release of this through the usual updates (webinars, newsletters, events etc).

We would be interested to understand the use case for this, so what will enabling more exports allow the user to do that they can’t do today? Is that a benefit for library staff, academic or student. If you can update this idea with your thoughts and we can then review.

    Hi,

I've obtained feedback from a couple of subject librarians at Bristol:

    1.
Some schools in our Health Sciences faculty employ a large number of clinicians (doctors, vets, dentists) from the hospitals to teach on their courses by the hour, who they cannot expect to train in / update software like Talis (given their time commitments / grade), so they ask admin or Library staff to liaise with them and do this for them. They have asked us to send them the lists in Word format to update the content as they are all familiar with Microsoft tools and can use Track Changes to indicate where changes to the lists are needed. We then update the Talis lists for them.

    2.
Some of our schools produce course handbooks, and they want to include exported reading lists from Talis in them.

    Best wishes,
    Rob
