this idea remains under review as we are about to start investigating and prioritising API use cases

This is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog while we focus on items in the development focus.
Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

Georgina - FYI, we adhere to www.bibliontology.com. I think customisable resource types would have to be implemented from this standard, though the idea is sound and it may be worth revising this idea or adding a new one (because it would subsume all ideas based on 'can we have report type x'). I still think would need to be a limited subset.
On 'digital reading', I've personally always felt strongly that the delivery mechanism needs to be seperated from the resource type. So the RT is 'Book' and the delivery mechanism is 'Electronic'. Though their is a slightly different implication in digitised reading, if my understanding is correct, that it implies scanned chapters/articles. Instinct tells me this is not a resource type, but again, that there is a user scenario in there - 'Allow a student to find resource on their list with digitised readings' or 'let the library determine material they have scanned'. These, by implication, mean that their should be some method to identify digitised materials even if that is not by a resource type.

We won’t be focusing on this now due to low votes in the 2012 Ideas Survey. However, we do feel that the ability to attach documents to reading lists would be useful, so its in our longer term backlog

Following our conversation, a thought that just dawned on me - have you seen the Pages function? Rich web editor where you can copy existing - or author new - content. Will also take copied text from a Word document, and preserve all formatting.
Gets a permanent URL also.
When you're editing a list, you will see it at the top of your list of bookmarks on the right. Just drag it on.
May be an alternative to PDF upload, though probably not a replacement.

We have been reviewing this idea following on from the list edit work that has been taking place and would like to now explore this piece further.
This is an example of how an idea may be declined at a point in time but as we explore and develop new areas we do review all ideas past and present and consider them all.

Is there two separate things here, or am I reading it wrong? (1) There are no copies on the shelf for this item and I want you to do something about it (2) When I follow this link, it doesn't work...and I want you to do something about it14/07/2009 04:25:18 [nigel.may]
re- Ian's comments.
If 1. It may also be that there are not enough copies of the book - see another suggestion about request for extra copies by teaching staff. The process could the same - but there would have to be some intermediate position so that the Subject librarian can intervene if necessary.
If 2. the link does not work - then this could be a different issue to the above and could be referred directly to the section responsible for dealing with such "technical " issues.14/07/2009 07:46:59 [nicola.tricker]
I was assuming (2) when I read this; i.e. reporting a broken link.14/07/2009 07:49:58 [Fiona Greig]
Actually the idea was around the first option. Students saying that there were no stocks in the library, or not being authenticated to the e-resource. We already have an idea earlier around "missing" pages in terms of non-working links.Ian Corns (Talis) shared this idea ·

We are currently refactoring the My Bookmarks screen to work in a way that allows users to sort and filter more effectively. Although this won’t include tagging or sorting yet, it does provide the framework for further options in this area.

I'm not sure whether this is a priority development for Aspire unless other institutions see it as replacing a lot of the functionality already available in our VLEs? Our academic staff make heavy use of our VLE to embed course resources using services like uTube, lecture capture software, (iTunes). Cath28/07/2009 01:32:21 [Chris Clarke (Talis)]
We have been in conversation with Box of Broadcasts - expect to see a podcast v. soon on the Education site http://www.talis.com/education! They are worried about access to copyright materials but there is potential to work on embedding freely available content.Ian Corns (Talis) shared this idea ·
Sue - you can currently copy a list in its entirety. There is a 'copy' option at the top of the list. Seelctign this makes a new list with the same title as the list being copied (but with the words 'Copy of...' at the start. Click Ok, and the copy will be made and you'll be in draft edit mode.
