This is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog while we focus on items in the development focus.
Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

The message that a digitisation is pending now appears in the academic view when editing a list so staff and academics will see this.
We will continue to review the need for this in the student view.

This would be a useful feature to add. In our institution most lists are created/updated by library staff - we can see when a digitisation has been requested but it would be helpful if academics and students could also see that the digitisation process is underway - otherwise it looks like we just have print copies of books. When we inform academics that their list has been published they sometimes come back to us to ask why some essential readings don't have a View Online button - it would be good if the pending status was clearly displayed.
Re. Ian's point about raising expectations, could some more general wording be used, e.g. 'Digitised copy requested'? Could this be displayed in the same place on the list as the View Online button?

It would be great to be able to mark the importance of all items in a section regardless of priority (i.e. also to mark everything in a section as Recommended or whatever).
It would also be good if an item was moved from one section to another that the system was able to detect the change and (e.g.) automatically change it from Essential to Recommended.

We have been reviewing this idea following on from the list edit work that has been taking place and would like to now explore this piece further.
This is an example of how an idea may be declined at a point in time but as we explore and develop new areas we do review all ideas past and present and consider them all.

Feedback from one of our academics on this:
"One thing that I do find very difficult with the reading list system is that it is hard to incrementally release readings. My preference would be to be able to create a list at the beginning of semester and then release sections every week. When I have released an entire list, students have either been put off by the size of it, or attempted to read too far ahead which has led to confusion."
(This academic does not use a VLE for his module, so embedding a section of a list isn't an option for him.)

We would like Talis to revisit this for several reasons:
- Our institution uses 2 VLEs, one of which is an in-house system which does not support embedding of sections of a list.
- For our other VLE (Moodle), very few academics have opted to embed sections of lists - in the vast majority of cases they've opted for a simple link to a complete list.
- Students come to resource lists from a variety of routes, not just Moodle (e.g. via a Google search). As with previous comments, this is something our academics have asked for consistently, e.g. one academic who likes to alternate readings from year to year; others that want to update lists as they go; team-taught modules where some academics have updated their section of the list, but others have not yet done so; etc. As hiding sections of pages (e.g. in Moodle) is common practice for many academics they are surprised when the same functionality is not available in resource lists.
Re. resource lists updated by Library staff: for long lists received late in the day from academics, very often we only have time to update the early sections of a list - we publish this and come back to complete the list when time allows. At present we need to add a note such as "Later weeks still to be updated" which isn't very satisfactory as students don't always see this. It would help a lot if we could simply hide the sections still to be worked on instead.

Any solution for this issue would be welcome, e.g. an easy way to create a combined bookmark for the physical and digital versions of an item

This is one of the features that we will be looking to bring across into the New List Edit so the behaviour is the same as the ‘Classic’ editing experience.

We are currently reviewing this idea as this is an interesting concept and one we would like to explore further. If anyone would like to add their use case to this ticket it would be helpful to understand all scenarios.

We are considering this as part of the bookmarking improvements we hope to make and can see this would be a valuable time saver. We will feed this back to our UX and Product Development teams.

We are looking at this and how more information can be provided in the emails sent following a rejected digitisation.

We may be able to do this as part of planned enhancements to bookmarking

With the changes to the list edit screens we are keen to review this and make it possible to undo some actions within the list.

We had some feedback from an academic which is relevant to this idea:
"It would be good if we could cut and paste sections between different reading lists. My ideal way of creating a reading list would be to set the whole thing up before semester starts, but only issue sections a couple of weeks in advance. Otherwise students read too far ahead, or I decide to add a new reading in response to something in class, and it all gets a bit confusing for them.
If I could set up sections in a temporary reading list and then cut and paste into the published list, this would make it much easier."
