Add the reading intentions menu button to paragraphs
Students taking online courses at our university have a core textbook for each module which is supplied by the course provider and not by our library.
As a result, the details of the core textbooks are kept at the top of their reading lists and in sections, in paragraph notes with a link to the course provider's VLE, rather than as standard bookmarks.
Students have reported that they would still like to use the reading intentions menu to indicate whether they have read, or are planning to read, their core textbooks, but this doesn't seem to be possible for paragraph…

Add built-in accessibility checker to Aspire
We would like to see a feature built into Talis Aspire that would enable the system to run an accessibility check on items as they were being added to a reading list to determine whether the destination platform (e.g. an eBook site or journals database) is compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. If that were possible, we could train our list creators to choose accessible resources for their lists. Also, the existence of a tool like this would put some pressure on those resource providers whose platforms are not very accessible to make improvements, or else find their resources making…

Remove Edition statements from compulsory metadata on Analytics
In the vast majority of referencing styles, "Edition" is only required where an item is a second or later edition.
However, the Metadata quality rating on reading list Analytics requires an edition statement for all books, whether they are single-edition or not. This is resulting in all single-edition or first edition books having red metadata flags even when their metadata is perfectly good and their Harvard (for example) reference entirely correct. If an academic or librarian inserted "1st edition" metadata into a bookmark, the reference generated would then be incorrect in most styles.
Unfortunately, since this would apply to so…

Abolish the Publish button!
What earthly use is the Publish button? It is hugely frustrating (not to say time-consuming) to continually have to search and click this Publish button to see your changes. Combine this with a user-driven option to control rollback to permit restore an earlier iteration from a complete history of changes.

Filter by no importance set in list view
In list view it's now possible to filter by importance (e.g. core text). Is it possible to include the option to filter by items with no importance set? That gives academics/librarians looking through a list a quick way to check if any items are missing an importance setting and need to be updated.

Adding the identifier (MMS ID / LCN) to the 'All List Items' report
Rather than having to search for titles/ISBNs, it would be beneficial to us if an MMS ID /LCN search field was added to the all list items report. An example workflow where this would benefit us is if a record has been deleted from our catalogue, and needs to be updated with the replacement record e.g. now using a community zone record.

section titles
It would be really useful for us to have the section title included in the All Items Report. I've managed to link the column 'Has Container' with the section URL found in Google Analytics, however a lot of the time, our academics want to know how students are interacting with each section when using LTI with Moodle. If the All Items Report included the section title it would be a lot easier to feed back to them on this.

Include hierarchy in review interface
We would like the review interface to make searching for the hierarchy/module code possible.

OpenURL should include Source ID for Talis
Every OpenURL created by Talis should include a source ID name/value pair so that
a) Our link resolver stats clearly indicate the volume of OpenURL requests from Talis
b) We can identify the source of the problem URL when our clients use the auto problem report form on our link resolver (which includes the problem OpenURLThis is standard across OpenURL sources. Might I suggest appending this string to every Talis OpenURL?:

Add time period information within bookmark item
Add the time period information within a bookmark item, for example within 'This item appears on' section.
We get feedback from students claiming they are unable to access a particular reading. This is because they are accessing an archived/previous version of a reading list, and a digitisation has expired. This is possibly caused by academics directly linking to these specific bookmarked readings from within the VLE. From a student perspective, they will see their course code listed in the 'This item appears on' and not think anything further.
Adding the semester information would provide a cue for them that a…

Improve options to link in LTI (open in new tab)
In the LTI for Moodle we only have access to the two options - in line display or open on seperate page. Can we please have open in new tab as well.

Ability to turn off LTI search box defaults (course name)
LTI to Blackboard:. When setting up the content block the name used in the search box defaults to the name of the blackboard course. This often is not the name of the list in Talis and so no match is found. Turning off that default and prompt the user to complete the search field would be a better option from our point of view.
We have had several calls where it was not clear to the user that they needed to enter the list name in the search box mainly because the users don't realise they can over type the…

Copying bookmarks
This suggestion relates to an extension of the facility to copy over bookmarks, as it would be usful to have the option to copy over the notes (associated with any bookmark), in addition to its importance level.
1 voteWe are reviewing copying options alongside our list edit changes and we will monitor this idea closely to understand if there is a use case for this functionality.

QuickAddBookmark sequence prompts to Create/Create and add to list
QuickAddBookmark is good but would be great if, rather than just creating a bookmark, it prompts to Create/Create and add to list.
At the moment, staff need to remember to add the bookmark to their list after creating the bookmark. If they drag & drop, they may forget to Set Importance which messes with our acquisitions workflow.
With Create/Create and add to list buttons at the end of the sequence, it would be instinctive to choose the list, set the importance, add notes to student/library etc. as required.

My Notes - To be able to identify which List the Item is from
When a student clicks on their profile and looks at 'My notes', the notes are displayed with a link to the item the note was placed on, however when clicking through to the item there is no indication as to what list or lists the item is on.
This almost defeats the purpose of a number of notes that a student may choose to place on an item if they are then unable to identify which list the item they placed that note on came from.
1 voteI agree that this could be confusing, especially if a student has used that feature in anger and made a lot of notes.
However, This is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog.

Additional supported sites for embedded video
Youtube and Vimeo are currently supported in Talis to embed videos within the full metadata view of a bookmark.
We've recently subscribed to EduTV, which is an excellent database of videos and playlists, and would like to have the same embedding for this resource.
We also have a large collection of streamed media hosted in-house (both off-air and commercial material as is permitted under copyright provisions), and would like these to be similarly embedded within Talis.
This was originally submitted as a support ticket question but it's been suggested that I raise an idea instead.1 voteA simple integration in the vein of the YouTube & Vimeo integrations can be dealt with via support as a bookmarking recogniser request. A tighter integration to support authenticated content will require liaising with EduTv to understand the requirements and will need to be planned.
However, this is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog while we focus on items in the development focus.
Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

Improvements to 'Create and Add to List'
Sometimes when you bookmark a resource, the 'Create and Add to List' function doesn't capture the resource you expect it to. This seems to be a particular problem where the same ISBN appears in more than one record, e.g. an e-book record that contains the ISBN of the print version - invariably, the print version is bookmarked even when the e-book version is displayed in Aspire ready to 'Create and Add to List'. It also happens in some reprinted monograph records where the ISBN of the original is included.
1 votewe’ll look at this as part of the bookmarking improvements

Selecting permission levels when inviting list publishers
One of our lecturers is keen to use her list collaboratively with students and staff but is reluctant to invite all the students as list publishers, because they would be given all the permissions. She would just want them to add resources to the list to share. Could a checkbox be added to the list of permissions so a list owner could select which permissions to assign?
1 votePermissions are tied to roles, so I’m not sure we would expose the permissions. However, it is a good idea to allow the list owner to determine the capabilities given to people they invite to share their list e.g.providing the option to invite publishers or invite list creator (where that role is configured with the correct permissions). This is on the Backlog for now as we would like to look at this, but at a later date

New reports - most popular books or resources
We have Aspire linked to our Library catalogue so any book (journal, DVD etc) on a published reading list shows the titles of the modules that book is used on. For the Aquisitions team this is useful to see how the same book may be being used across the University as sometimes it is being used in more than one subject area and, therefore different funds.
I'd like to suggest that it would be useful to list the top (eg) 100 resources so we can see which resources are being used the most and ensure we have sufficient stock.
1 voteThis is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog while we focus on items in the development focus.
Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

Node level "List creator" role
We would like to give list creator roles at a node or department level. At the moment, it is only available at tenancy level. We would like to limit users' ability to create lists anywhere, but allow them to create them as necessary in their department's area.
1 voteWe are not going to focus on this right now but we do plan to visit this as part of a wider look at how we manage scoping and hierarchy
