  1. add bookjackets to 'View & Export' -> 'PDF - List'

    A visually-impaired student wants to print a reading list incl. bookjackets to help identify books on shelf.

    Unfortunately, the attempted workaround of printing the webpage does not help as list items not rendered appear as grey blank boxes.

    Is there anything Talis can do to support this disability further?

  2. Improve navigation of lists within Reviews

    We are currently dealing with a large number of lists being reviewed and are finding navigation to reviews is time-consuming.

    Firstly, when you click on the "back" link it takes you back to the start of the reviews, instead of where your last list was located.

    Secondly, we would like more than 5 pages available at the bottom of the screen- perhaps the option to increase to 10 pages?

  3. Make lists available only to those registered on the module

    We have some lecturers who are concerned about some sensitive content on their reading lists. They state that they are happy to upload material to our VLE as this is restricted only to students registered on the module, who they have been able to give a "warning" about the sensitivity, but they are concerned about other members of the University being able to view the material out of context. We would therefore like it to be possible for reading lists to be restricted only those registered on a module.

  4. Add Browzine's PDF download links

    Browzines LibKey functionality allows you to add direct PDF download links into discovery systems such as Summon and Primo. This is a really useful feature as it provides seemless 1-click downloads for subscribed article content.

    Integrating the Browzine links into Aspire would help make accessing articles as quick and simple as possible.

  5. Allow us to edit the default subject line of "review is complete" message

    Currently we have to use the automated "review is complete" email even when sending a review back to academics to ask that they add student numbers/importances before we can review it. We would like to be able to edit the subject line of this email ourselves to say something like "Requiring Action – additional information required for Resource List review" Otherwise, the academics just think their review has been completed, with no further action required.

  6. Add multiple book vendors to item records

    We currently have a link to Amazon for our item records but we also have an agreement with John Smith booksellers to provide texts to First Years as a part of a bursary arrangement.

    It would be extremely useful to be able to show a second link to another bookseller to make it easy for the First Years to click through to the point of acquisition from the reading list.

  7. Browse hierarchy - move +Add List button closer

    When no list is attached to a module can the +Add List button be moved closer so there is less white space on the screen between module code/name and the button. We think some lecturers look at this quickly and do not spot the button.

  8. Scoping of list creator role to an individual list

    I would like to suggest the scoping of the list creator role to an individual list only. Currently, the list creator role is a 'system-wide permission' which allows list creators to edit any lists.

  9. Reviews - time and date of outcomes to be visible on .csv report

    It would be helpful if the date and time of comments/amendments made via a review could also be exported to the .csv file, when you export the review. Can this be done at all ? The excel spreadsheet includes a column for review outcome, and these are visible, (which was activated as a result of a previous idea), but does not have the time the comment/outcome was made. Adding this feature would help with our workflows as we could see at a glance how work was progressing on a particular review.

  10. Update Lists using this resource when item linked via LCN

    When a title is linked to our catalogue during the Review stage, the Review doesn’t update the breakdown information of Lists using this resource, so we have to check the All items report to see if the item is on any other lists. This information should refresh automatically when the item has been linked.

  11. Display of tutor notes

    Would it be possible to improve/increase the flexibility of the formatting of the tutor notes field? It is difficult to make the presentation of the Student Notes Field look good with it often looking quite cluttered if you want to raise a number of different points, or list a number of different chapters, within a note. It isn't, for example, possible to put these on separate lines.

    We would be interested to understand the use case for this, so what will enabling more exports allow the user to do that they can’t do today? Is that a benefit for library staff, academic or student. If you can update this idea with your thoughts and we can then review.

  13. add column to all lists report for 'last updated by'

    It's really frustrating not being able to tell who last updated a list for erasons of trouble-shooting. For example we have some lists for the last time period that have been updated since rollover and I'd like to trace who has done that to check that they realise they are editing the old list not the new one. It could be one of the lecturers but it could also be a member of library staff. We can't see on the list itself (that would be ideal), but could we have it added to the all list report - it already…

  14. Facilitate use of ReadSpeaker in Talis reading lists

    Southern Cross University has selected ReadSpeaker (http://www.readspeaker.com/) as our text to speech provider. The ReadSpeaker building block in our LMS (BlackBoard) provides text to speech functionality for all students accessing content in the LMS. This is regarded as an important tool for equity and access. We would like Talis to add ReadSpeaker text to speech technology to the LTI content. We are aware that other institutions also use ReadSpeaker and seek your support for this important function that enables equity.

  15. Option to create a new blank list on the module screen

    When you create a new module you see the screen where you can link an existing list. It would be very handy at this point to have a button that says 'create a new list' that contains a hotlink to the new list page.
    (At present I have 'Create a new list' saved as a frequently used bookmark but this would be useful if using a different computer)

  16. Improve usability of list searches from the Aspire homepage

    This idea comprises:
    • Ability to filter or refine list searches
    • Changes the behaviour of pagination in list search results
    • The option to change the terminology on links which appear in the course of searching
    • ‘Back to the school of XYZ’
    • ‘Others’ label in the search result

    *Ability to filter or refine list searches

    If you’re not searching for a specific list, a search may bring back many results. With the page limited to displaying 10 results you may have to page through several screens.

    Can filters be introduced to help refine this? For example bringing…

  17. Editing the note on a bookmarked item

    At present it is possible to add a note to an item at the point of bookmarking, but it isn't possible to edit or delete that note after the bookmark has been created. It would be useful to be able to do so.

    Whilst we would like to make this improvement, it is currently not in our near term focus, so I’m moved it to the backlog to reflect this. idea has been moved to our backlog Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

  18. Alternative authentication schemes for APIs

    We would like to be able to directly access reports and other authenticated data from scripts without the need to web-scrape through the login process protecting them.

    It would be good if the existing APIs implemented an API-key style scheme, e.g. accepting a header "Authorization: api_key <customer-api-key>" with each request.

  19. Dashboard - New edition notification opt-in

    At the moment there is an option to request an email notification if any alternative resources are located for a specific item within the Dashboard.

    One of our Academic Support Librarians suggested it would be useful if course organisers could opt-in to be notified via an email when the Dashboard feature picks up a new edition of any book on that list.

  20. Include the Ability to Add the 'Format' field within a bookmark

    Sometimes when bookmarking the 'Format' field will be automatically included in the record. When it is not, there is no option from the drop-down to add it. This must be a simple thing to rectify, and is causing us to use workarounds when listing eBooks where the field is not present.
