  1. Library creation of academic user profiles

We think more academics would use the Dashboard feature and in doing so apprecaite the impact of the size and structutre of their list, if library staff could automatic create (and delete) user profiles for academics.

  2. Allow administrators to revoke invitations, and batch-change roles

At the moment, I can revoke roles that have already been accepted, one user at a time.

However I can't retrieve/revoke an invitation that has been sent in error, if the user has not yet accepted the invitation.

I would like to be able to:

    (1) Revoke/retrieve an invitation to accept a role, even before the user has accepted the role.

    (2) Remove roles from batches of users, not just one user at a time.

We will not be focusing on this due to low votes. This idea has been declined and moved to the archive.

  3. Create mailing lists of users

We would like the ability to create user lists for emailing purposes, so that when, for example, the rollover period is due, we can email all list owners who will be affected. It would also be useful to filter such lists based on role.

We have started a similar sort of solution to this, where when a list owner is assigned, you can choose to give them publisher permission at the same time. The problem with doing it the other way round is that you cannot select an owner if they don’t have a profile in Aspire already, but you may still want to invite that person to be a list publisher.

  5. Role Permissions: Make 'copy list' a separate permission so it can be transferred within roles

We're experiencing a large amount of copied lists by academics and the copy list function is often not being used as intended. As a result additional work is being generated identifying correct lists then deleting copied versions and duplicate drafts.

Presently the copy list permission cannot be separated as it part of a standard role but we would be keen to see it as a stand alone permission so it could be transferred to specific roles such as Library Acquisitions and Systems Admin.

  6. Prevent users from bypassing profile creation on initial sign in

Because of a known glitch on your system, if users skip this step they are invited to be list publishers on a large volume of lists. At a large institution we cannot reliably expect to communicate this to all new Freshers or other first time users so if you cannot resolve the glitch we suggest you prevent users from bypassing profile creation.

    Hi Maria,

I’m declining this idea as its an issue that is already being dealt with via a support ticket and not an improvement request. A fix is being worked on.

    Regards,

  7. Allow customisation of options for "I would describe myself as"

Now Talis has made the "I would describe myself as" field mandatory, it is even more important that these roles are meaningful and do not confuse/annoy users who don't understand the categories or which they fit into. We need to be able to set the options as appropriate for our institution.

These could be potentially useful as statistical categories for us, but they're currently not due to the inflexible way they've been implemented.

  8. Devolved Constraints: List users Publish rights in a human friendly format.

I am getting a large number of "Am I listed for module XYZ" Requests at the moment.

We would like to see a Human friendly /saml/attributes page that allows a user to see which modules they have Publish Rights to.

  9. Request Editor Rights

Provide users with the opportunity to request editor rights for a list from within the public view. This would streamline the process of academics wishing to order items through a list as currently they have to email the admins and ask for access to each list.

Admins could have the opportunity to accept or reject applications dependent on suitability.

  10. Send invitations to a batch of users

We can currently add users individually by entering their email addresses, however this is very time consuming. Ideally, we would like the ability to send bulk invites by uploading a spreadsheet.

  11. Add permission for 'edit time period'

We often have trouble with users changing one year's list to become the next year's list just by changing the time period. This means the earlier year's list is no longer available to students (through the VLE or searching and paying attention to time periods).

If the ability to set time period were a permission we could decide who should be able to change this; the ability to edit a time period is rarely needed as lists are created and rolled over. Setting a time period should still be possible by list creators.

With adding this as a permission, it…

  12. Add ability to transfer user profile to new username

Staff sometimes have username changes if, for example, they transfer to a new department. We'd like the user not to lose all their profile information/bookmarks/lists/etc just because they have to start logging in with the new username.

We can provide their new and old Shibboleth persistent IDs and from our initial migration project (where we could provide a csv file of old and new IDs for them to be migrated), understand that this should mean it's technically possible for the user profile to be migrated to the new login. However, it's not something we can currently do or Support will…

In order to take this idea forward we would need more details to understand the key issues and what you would like to see resolved. If this is still important please do raise again with further detail.

  14. We're just starting to create a lot of lists on behalf of academic staff, and need to assign the staff as list owners and give them editing

We're just starting to create a lot of lists on behalf of academic staff, and need to assign the staff as list owners and give them editing permissions. The easiest way for us to do this is to click "Assign with Publisher Role" from the dialogue box, but it doesn't send an email invite to the tutor, only a notification that they are the list owner. Is it possible to get a link put in the notification that tutors can click on to accept the publisher invite (as if we'd assigned them as owner and invited them as publisher separately)?

  16. Central Service 'generic' profile

We are interested in the idea of having a central 'generic' profile as we run a centralised service model where all academic requests come to a single email address as a first and ongoing point of contact.

Our thinking on this is that our processing staff (Library Assistants and Senior Library Assistants) won't be logging in to use this account but that we simply want to be able to select this profile to add to lists as the List Owner.

If a lecturer then expresses an interest in amending the list themselves, we will send them an invite to be…

  17. Change the name of some of the Roles to relate to staff assigned

Is it possible to change the name of some of the Roles so that they more closely relate to the staff assigned to them? E.g. to call one role

  18. Adding more subjects into the discipline drop-down list

We have had a few academics who have been unhappy that their particular subject does not appear in the discipline drop down list. An example of this is Social Work, and another one yesterday was Geography, I know there are options on the list where they could sit but it would be nice to be able to offer them their own subject. So my proposal is to have a drop down box that can be configurated so that we can add in more subjects.
