Add an alternative resource
Was used frequently in TL2 both by academic and library staff to provide information on alternative formats and editions.

Do not create duplicate bookmarks
If you bookmark an item that already exists in your bookmark list, Aspire creates a new bookmark so you may end up with multiple bookmarks for the same item.
It would be better if Aspire informed you there was already a matching bookmark in your list. It could offer the choice of using the existing bookmark or creating a new one. If you chose to use the existing one this could be promoted up to the top of your bookmarks list.
19 votesThere are no planned improvements to the bookmarking mechanism in the near term development focus.

Copy function for bookmarks
It would be really useful if a 'copy' function could be included in the possible actions given in 'My Bookmark'.
Currently, if a list creator is using, for example, several chapters from the same work, or multiple volumes, they must create a fresh bookmark and edit it accordingly. Being able to copy existing bookmarks that have been edited to good metadata standards would be a massive timesaver.
I am aware that there is a semi-workaround for this involving duplicating a 'template' bookmark within the reading list, but this is not as simple and straightforward to explain or do as just…18 votesWe will not be focusing on this due to low votes. Add a bookmark to multiple lists in one go
Some academics have the same reading list for several modules - so they are basically copies for each module. It would be really useful if, at the bookmarking stage, a reference could be added to multiple lists in one go.

Search and add resources from within list edit
An in-line search function for the local catalogue/resource discovery system, and an external source (e.g. Amazon, Worldcat, GoogleScholar etc.). A list creator would - from within the list edit screen, be able to search for the text they require, and drag it across from the returned results into the panel and/or their bookmarks.
This would improve the workflow immeasurably for staff creating new lists - the current bookmarking system is fine for the incremental "magpie" like collection of resources as you come across them, but falls flat when it comes to large scale buidling of lists from scratch (which most…

Default 'Note' field for library guidance to students
Recent discussions around Bookmarking items following the Aspire release posting of 29th September led to the idea of having a set of 'default' notes that library staff could use to provide further information about items on a list. For example, 'Licensed for use only by students registered on this course' is one that we regular use (currently adding this in the Study note field).
Ian pointed out that ideally the Study Note should stay as such, for use by tutors to guide students learning and I am in agreement with this. So, it would be useful to have a set…

Update (e-)book entries to the latest edition
Unless otherwise specified, we ensure that our online reading lists always point to the latest version of books and e-books we hold in stock. At the moment, it is necessary to manually replace each link with a new one pointing to the catalogue record for the new edition.
It would save a lot of time and effort if when item were added to a list it was possible to opt for it to update to newer editions of the same item when these are added to stock, perhaps by Aspire running an overnight title/author search of the catalogue for all…
11 votesAs discussed previously, we will not force the use of the newer editions as there may be a pedagogical requirement to use a specific edition and different institutions. However, the List Dashboard provides edition indicators including those in the library catalogue. We are also currently investigating the exposure of edition indicators in the reviews area

Change the Online Resource button to display Access eBook from the list view
hello,
We have been looking at making it obvious to our users what type of material they are accessing from the list view.
We initially suggested that a new Resource type of Ebook could be added but following discussions the suggestion of changing the Online Resource button to displaying the Access an Ebook on the List View page was made instead of this being only available within the record. This would cut a step out and also make it clear that it was and ebook to the user.9 votesWe will not be focusing on this due to low votes. This idea has been declined and moved to the archive

ISSN lookup for creating bookmarks
It would be useful to be able to import biblio information into a bookmark using the ISSN, as you can already do using ISBNs.
This would reduce the amount of manual input requried by reading list creators.

Rename 'My Booksmarks' e.g. 'My Aspire Bookmarks'
Just want to avoid confusion with the normal Bookmarks/ Favourites options within Browsers.
8 votesHi Veronica,
We don’t want to introduce this as not all customers “brand” their reading list solution with the Aspire product name.
However we are currently reviewing the My Bookmarks/My Lists areas with a view to introducing much-improved versions next year. We will take your comments on board.
Thanks,
Chris

Make the bookmarklet into an open FireFox add-on.
Replace the bookmarklet with an open FF add-on, in a smililar manner to libX. If this were to happen, small library systems teams could add simple configs / scripts that recognised the resources being browsed by the academic and then extract necessary urls, encode them or inset proxy domains however the local institution operates. Then we could push updated configs out the academics as a new version when they open their browser. This would give a little more freedom to Talis customers who have the ability to make developments so that librarians do not need to make manual entries into…

Bookmarking documents and returning to the original search
Perhaps I am using the tool incorrectly.
When I bookmark a resource from a google or database search, there seems to be no obvious way to get back to the original search results apart from pressing the 'back' button 5 or 6 times - is there another way of doing this?
If not, could this be implemented?6 votesWe cannot return you to the original search results that led you to the resource you chose to bookmark i.e. if you do a google search, then click on a search result and navigate through several clicks to a resource you decide to bookmark, we cannot get you back to the search. We can only get you back to the page from which you initiated the bookmarking process

Addition of MARC Note fields (500 range) mapping
We are suggesting consideration of expanding the current MARC to Talis mapping to include Note tags (500 range).
Current mapping: http://support.talisaspire.com/entries/382722-How-are-attributes-mapped-from-source-metadata-to-Talis-Aspire-bibliographic-fields-A broad range of important information is included in these fields, especially for multimedia material.
For example:
SUMMARY 520 Feature film from Japan. Anime. Their mother killed in an air raid, their soldier father's fate unknown, siblings Setsuko and Seita try to survive in World War II ravaged Japan.
NOTE 500 Broadcast date: 4/1/2007
NOTE 500 English language version of 1988 Japanese original 'Hotaru no haka'.
NOTE 500 DVD
NOTE 506 AVAILABLE TO UQ STAFF AND STUDENTS ONLY.

Bookmarking e-resources from the Library catalogue
When we are bookmarking an e-resource from the Library catalogue (Prism 3) the url that is appearing in the Aspire bookmark is the one in the 856 of the Marc record. As a Talis customer, we have used the Hotlink table to hold our MMU specific hotlinks, so the url in the 856 does not necessarily match what is in the hotlink table. We are currently setting up work flows for library and academic staff, and concerned that the simple bookmarking from Prism 3 for e-resourcesis not going to work, and we will have to manually copy these urls from…
4 votesTechnically, we are unable to achieve this because Prism 3 does not expose the hotlinks information.
We will be investigating how to make improve 856 display and there are other ideas relating to that, however we are unable to satisfy this particular idea.

Return 'View my Bookmarks' option to Bookmarklet tutorial
The new style Bookmarklet tutorial (complete with browser pre-checking) is much improved. However, the walkthrough of the 'View my Bookmarks' option has been lost. Can this be reinstated to the guide?

Enable sharing of bookmarks between list creators
Some of our academics share responsibilities for their reading lists. If they were able to share bookmarks between each other, it would allow them to collaboratively edit and maintain their lists more effectively. For example, users can currently link lists to their account by selecting ‘add to my lists’ – could you introduce a similar function for bookmarks and give users an ‘add to my bookmarks’ option?

There is an “Add to My Bookmarks” function for individual list items

introducing "editor(s)" fields
Listing editors as "author(s)" is incorrect and highly confusing for students.
3 votesWhen an item is bookmarked, we will pick up the authors and editors as they are defined in the source, if we are then able to identify the item in your library catalogue, then we pull the MARC record for that item into the correct fields.
If we cannot find the item in the catalogue, then we may be limited by the metadata provided in the bookmark source. Unfortunately, there may be old bookmarks which have been created prior to us introducing the functionality to ensure editors are bookmarked correctly, but anything new being bookmarked should behave this way.
Finally, when creating a bookmark manually, editor is an available field.
I’m declining this idea as I beliieve the application alreaady includes this functionality. Can I suggest that you raise a support ticket with examples of where you believe this behaviour is not happening so we can look into it and…

Manually set online resource - also use resource title as link to resource
Regarding the new feature to manually set an online resource in the bookmark, it would be completely useful if somehow by selecting the check box in the bookmark, Aspire was able to not only add the blue online resource box but also attached itself to the title so that both linked directly to the article/digitised chapter.

Share my bookmarks
I would like to suggest a ‘share my bookmarks’ option. I believe it would be very ‘current’, considering the ‘share’ buttons are all over the web and social media today.
At the moment I’ve been showing some tutors how to export their bookmarks (as a .ris file) from a published list and then import them into their ‘my bookmarks’ section. Because we are piloting the reading lists this semester, we are still creating a lot of lists for some academics before we make them list owners.
I believe that a ‘share’ option would simplify this process. I see it as…2 votesDue to the low number of votes we will not be taking this idea forward. You can already export a list and import into ‘My bookmarks’ if you are handing over a list. This we believe meets the need of your idea. In the new list view, you are able to Share individual resources by copying the link.
