Automatically bookmark videos as "Online Resources"
During our pilot phase, we've noticed that when academics add YouTube or BoB videos to their lists, they generally forget to tick the "Online Resource" box - possibly because they are used to it happening automatically when they bookmark, e.g., articles and ebooks.
It would be useful if online videos could be automatically recognised as "Online Resources" by the bookmarking tool.
At present this does not happen because "audio-visual document" resource type can include, e.g., DVDs listed on a Library catalogue (not an online resource). However, could there not be a workaround similar to the one for ebooks (see: http://support.talis.com/hc/en-us/articles/205644351-How-the-Online-Resource-button-works…
20 votesWe have introduced an improvement when bookmarking audiovisual items. Previously the 'Online Resource' box was not automatically ticked when a user bookmarked an item with a URL (eg a YouTube video), so items often needed to be manually corrected. Now when a user bookmarks these items, if a URL is detected, then we will automatically tick the box, ensuring that a View Online button appears when the item is added to a list.

Prepare for RDA
We notice that RDA records (Resource Description and Access), which are now beginning to appear, are not being bookmarked fully with publication details into Aspire. This is because RDA uses MARC field 264 instead of 260, and Aspire doesn't yet 'recognise' 264. Please could Aspire be made 'RDA-ready' for when we, and no doubt many other customers, move to RDA.
We haven't yet implemented RDA but plan to do so soon, and we are already accepting records for downloading that are in RDA MARC format.

Extending the Bookmarklet's coverage
The extension of the number of publishers, platforms and online services with which the Bookmarklet is compatible will be a key requisite for widespread academic adoption, and I've a number of suggestions:
1) Customers should be able to view a domain level report, filterable by time span, of the 'most popular' domain sources of Bookmarked items in their tenancy
2) Customers should try to agree a priority list of publishers and platforms to assist Talis in identifying the priorities for the expansion of the Bookmark's coverage
3) Talis should publish (for customers) a guide indicating how the Bookmark works on…
14 votesAlthough we have not implemted the exact specification that Richard describes here, have released the dynamic bookmarklet which has considerably extended the coverage of the bookmarklet and more importantly, we are now able to include new sites much easier and quicker. The Bookmarking Recognisers Suggestions forum will be used going forward to collect suggestions for new sites to include in the coverage.

Ability to set default link for Online Resource button
At present when bookmarking electronic material the default order for links used for the Online Resource button is:
- Open URL
- DOI
- Web Address
It would be useful if this could be configured for individual tenancies, as some customers may wish to have a different default order.

Importing citataions
From one of our academics ...
Being able to import bookmark items from Delicious (others would want endnote).
13 votesThis feature is complete but we are beta testing it with a small group of academics before making it generally available. This is so we can ensure the import is working for a wide range of situations.

New editions displayed when bookmarking
In reviews 2.0 and dashboard analytics there is an alert which shows that newer editions are available. Would it be possible to display this functionality to academics when they are bookmarking
12 votesNew editions are now shown when using Quick Add to add resources in New List Edit.

Add music score to resource type

When in editing return to where you last were
When editing a list and you open ‘Edit metadata’ it would be great if closing the box took you back to where you last were rather than the top of the list. More of an issue when you are working on a huge long list.
9 votesWe have now resolved this issue. When you finish editing, you are no longer returned to the top of the list. Instead the item you were editing is at the top

Don't limit bookmarks search to first 250 items
In list edit, if you use the search function to find a bookmark it will only search within the first 250 boomarks. If you have many hundreds of bookmarks your need to scroll through many pages of bookmarks to find the one you need. This is very time consuming for people with hundreds or thousands of items bookmarked.
The search function should search ALL your bookmarks not just the first 250.
6 votesWe declined this idea back in 2015 but as part of the New List Edit refresh we have been able to tackle this by the adding of the Quick Add feature into the list itself and the bookmark results are not limited by 250 anymore.
If you’ve not yet seen the New List Edit or the Quick Add feature do raise a support ticket.

Additional field 'Editor' in bookmarklet
Sometimes monographs have authors of individual chapters but an overall editor. It is misleading to add their names as authors of the book in the 'Is Part of' tab when citing digitised chapters. Including 'Editor' as an optional additional field would improve these citations.

Linking to Ex Libris Primo
We are changing our catalogue from Ex Libris Voyager to Ex Libris Primo next year. Currently, there is no bookmark in Aspire that recognises Primo. We are hoping that Talis will be able to develop one
4 votesWe released this on the 22nd July 2011. Anyone who wants to switch their catalogue to Ex Libris Primo please contact talis support.

Alternative authority catalogue for physical stock items not held by local library
We're thinking through how the Bookmark tool could better support academic creation of a list where an academic wants to add items not yet held by the library (which may be subsequently purchased). To ensure that the library gets a good quality Bibliographic record from which to work, is it possible that alternative catalogues, such as COPAC (http://copac.ac.uk/) or the BL catalogue (http://catalogue.bl.uk/) could be configured to work with the bookmarking tool. We could then clearly advise academics: "If you don't find it in the library catalogue, try COPAC or the BL." I'm not currently clear…
4 votesWe’re currently assessing the best way to implement this. We’ve been in contact with COPAC and are looking at Open Library. A solution closer to home would be to utilise the union catalog held in Talis Base.
My initial investigations show that coverage could be extended to WorldCat (and others) by making use of COINS metadata to pass the identifiers to Aspire, whereby Aspire would then look up those in your local catalog first, and then a union (if there was no local record).
We plan to implement this feature during September. -
Author entries on bookmarks
When author details are brought in from catalogue or other source the format is surname, first name. However when you manually add this information to a bookmark the order is first name, surname. This results in author entries being inconsistent when viewed in a list and could confuse students when they are citing an item
3 votesWe made some changes to ensure that when bookmarking they are put into the relevant fields which do display as first name, surname. However, Author names are displayed in format Surname, First name on the list and in the bookmark. The only instance where this does not occur is where we have not been able to match the resource in the catalogue and we bring in the format taken from the source site.

Extend search and indexing for My Bookmarks
The search facility in My Bookmarks appears only to pull back the Title index. At a minimum it would be useful to add some other key fields (notably Author) to that search. It would be good to offer an Advanced search option too, with field specific selection choices
3 votesThe search in My Bookmarks now searches titles, notes and authors

Saving bookmarks before deleting items in new list view
It would be useful to have the 'add to my bookmarks' function on the edit view, so that you can save the bookmark in case of later need on that view before deleting an item from the list.
Currently, to save the bookmark you need to be in the published view and then switch to the edit view to delete the item. It would be useful to have this all available in edit when working on lists which have been added without bookmarks already in place.
2 votesIt is now possible to save an item “Add to my bookmarks” from the edit view of a list before you remove from the list.

Resource Type - Film
We have a large film collection and also subscribe to BoB.
It would be great to have a resource Type for Audio-Visual materials as book can be misleading as we may have a film and book of the same title.
If can it also default to appropriate fields then that would be even more efficient.

Display of journal information
Similar to the 'display of chapters' idea, which is due to be implemented, we have received feedback that academics would like the journal information to be shown in the reading list display i.e. without the student having to click through to the article title.
1 voteThis is already available in the new list view, which is ready for rollout in your university. Recommended steps to rollout the new list view at your University can be read here: https://support.talis.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000008189-Recommended-steps-to-rollout-the-new-list-view-at-your-University
