  1. "Refresh all book metadata" option to catch bulk changes to e.g. ebook URLs

We have recently applied a change to all our ebook URLs on our catalogue.

I would like Talis to add an option to refresh all my book metadata, by re-polling our catalogue for every book item in Aspire with a Local Control Number, updating any fields which have changed.

Without this, I have to identify and manually update all ebook records to update the URLs.

  2. Customisable Text in Role Invite

Rather than be stuck with the set text provided out of the box, it would be good if each site could customize the text and language they would like to use when sending out the Role Invitation email.

This is not currently in our near term development focus so it has been moved to the longer term backlog.

Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

  3. Change 'review complete' notification recipient

Many of our lists are added and sent for review by library staff or temps. When we complete the review the notification goes back to them rather than the relevant academic even when the correct list owner has been assigned. It would be useful if there was an option for staff to alter the recipient at this stage by pasting in the correct email address.

  4. Preset metadata fields for 'Has Part/Part Of'

Would it be possible to have a number of preset fields that were automatically generated after selecting resource type?

For example, after selecting chapter or article, could Aspire automatically generate fields for author, pages, date, web address? And then adding volume and issue when selecting article.

And also have a different set of preset fields for book, journal etc in 'Is Part Of' if creating a bookmark from scratch.

It would be a great time saving feature for our team here if it was possible. It would also encourage accurate and complete metadata on every bookmark.

  5. Customisable text and labels

All text in Aspire should be customisable. This is a standard feature of our other systems (e.g. Summon and LibGuides). Aspire uses terms such as 'digital article' which are not meaningful to our users as we do not use these terms in any of our other systems or communications.

Customisable text would allow us to:
    1. Use langauge that is meaningful to our users
    2. Conform with our university and library style guides
    3. Use consistent language across all of our systems and websites

We put a lot of effort into using consistent terminology in our websites and avoiding difficult…

  6. Customisation of the submit for publishing dialogue box

when submitting a list for publication we would like to customise this message box (see attached) to prompt the list creator to submit the list for review. We would like both to be able to customise the text and for there to be a box to click through to review.

We do intend to investigate the introduction of a dictionary tool which would enable configuration of local messages. This will be reviewed and prioritised following the completion of the Db re-architecture but is not a current priority

  7. Customise how on loan items are displayed in reading lists

We would like to be able to customise how on loan items are displayed in Talis. Currently a due date is displayed, but as we have automatic unlimited renewals, most items will be renewed significantly beyond the due date displayed.

Where all copies of an item are on load, we would like to change what is displayed in Talis to say "All items on loan - please request this item" or a similar message.

  8. Customise Aspire with Javascript

Add the ability for customers to insert Javascript into Aspire. This would enable us to make small customisations and improvements to the interface.

Aspire is extremely limited in its customisable options. We are unable to make even small tweaks to the interface. The ability to add Javascript could allow us to make small improvements and local customisations which would remove some of the frustration of waiting for changes to be made through the development cycle.

  9. Edit dropdown menu for teaching periods when creating a new list

When a new list is created, the options to select the teaching period are arranged in chronological order from oldest to newest. Given the large number of teaching periods that we currently have in the Monash tenancy, this makes it a slow task to find the latest, relevant teaching period.

At Monash, our preference is to be given edit rights to add and remove the teaching periods from this drop down menu at will rather than submitting a Support Task; which is easy to forget to do.

  10. Making Aspire content searchable/discoverable in Resource Discovery Tools.

We would like to be able to search Aspire via a Resource Discovery Tool. As we are trying to simplify searching for resources as easy as possible, it makes sense for Aspire to be included in the targets the tool can search.

  11. Prevent academics contacting individuals through "Review Completed" emails

When a review is completed, the review requester (in our case this is usually an academic) receives a "review completed" email. This email is sent to them from noreply@talisaspire.com - However, if the academic replies to this email it is sent to the individual who processed the review. Our team has a general email account for reading list queries and encourage academics to contact us in this way. Is there any way for the "noreply@talisaspire.com" email address to actually prevent people from replying to personal staff accounts?

  12. Adding a favicon

When we go to our tenancy of Aspire, there is no favicon, however it should be using our Brunel University one.

Adding this should either be included in implementation, or should be added to the branding console (though it's not the sort of thing you want to change often, more like the main institution logo).

  13. Selecting permission levels when inviting list publishers

One of our lecturers is keen to use her list collaboratively with students and staff but is reluctant to invite all the students as list publishers, because they would be given all the permissions. She would just want them to add resources to the list to share. Could a checkbox be added to the list of permissions so a list owner could select which permissions to assign?

Permissions are tied to roles, so I’m not sure we would expose the permissions. However, it is a good idea to allow the list owner to determine the capabilities given to people they invite to share their list e.g.providing the option to invite publishers or invite list creator (where that role is configured with the correct permissions). This is on the Backlog for now as we would like to look at this, but at a later date
