  1. Display of chapters

When we add specific chapters to lists we'd like the title of the book as well as the title of the chapter to be automatically included in the display. We currently manually edit entries to include both, for example.
The Reformation Parliament, IN: Parliament and politics in Scotland, 1235-1560 - K. M. Brown
This think would make it easier for students to identify the chapter when browsing a list

  2. A keyword search for e.g. book titles within Talis Aspire

The ability to search for book titles within the Talis Aspire tenancy from a search box, thus allowing users to see if books are on other lists.

  3. Display list in an alternate style

Ability to display lists in a specific citation style - Many of our courses use the Harvard style and although lists can be viewed as a bibliography and exported in specific citation styles, our course organisers would like to be able to provide a consistent approach in the way they are presenting their reading lists. They would like the option to present the list itself in the Harvard style, i.e. by Author first not Title.

  4. Export list as printable document (e.g. txt, rtf, doc, pdf)

    From an academic ...

At the risk of becoming unpopular...I would like to be able to use the online reading list to populate a module handbook - but this new version does not have an easily copyable format.

  5. Online buttons on the main list page to be managed by list editor rather than resource type

by adding a check box field in the record for any resource. Checking this box would display an online resource image on the list main page which would link to the web link in the record. This would also allow users to manage situations where for example an 856 link does not actually go to the full text, as they could uncheck the box.

We have many digitised resources which are book chapters or articles, this would enable us to give them the correct resource type and still have them showing up as online resources in the list.

With apologies for the delay in getting this implemented, the ability to manually set the online resource button has been implemented with the ability to set which link the button will send the user to.

  6. customisation of the reference management software used in the export button

Currently, clicking the export button in a reading list defaults to either saving an RIS file, or opening in EndNote.

I suggest that the functionality of the button should be customisable to reflect the preferred institutional reference management software.

I’m closing this idea as we have now enabled Refworks direct export from a reading list as well as “My Bookmarks”. We will not be investigating Endnote support unless there is a demand for it. We will however, look at addresssing the capability to turn off the export to refworks option where not applicable

  7. Tag items

Is it possible to be able to tag / mark items as 'Electronic Resource' for online journal articles and e-books etc and then be able to re-group the list to display all electronic resources together?

  8. Display the Edition metadata in the reading list view

Current the reading list title, author(s) and publication date are displayed in a reading list. The user needs to click on the title to see the remaining metadata information, such as Edition. This is an idea to also display the Edition data (if available) in the reading list view. Exposing the edition data at a glance would be useful to the student, as well as the list owner. It would help to keep the list up to date, and assist with list auditing and quality checking.

The new list view now displays the Edition information in the front screen. This resolves the initial idea that was raised.

For those interested in the Editors showing this is currently in beta and detail can be found in this idea, please do add your votes to this so we can help you keep up to date on this: http://ideas.talis.com/forums/32805-talis-aspire-reading-lists/suggestions/9766701-include-editor-in-the-front-screen-list-view

  9. Make the OpenURL link for articles optional

The OpenURL link will only work successfully for articles which are found in your electronic journal subscriptions. For articles which are in open access journals or in your print collection, the OpenURL link will always fail, which may lead your students to believe they cannot access the article.

Make the display of the OpenURL link for articles optional so it can be suppressed for open access, print or other articles which will not be found via your link resolver.

  10. My Lists - default sort by Title

A small but helpful tweak - could the My Lists list default to an A-Z Title sort.

  11. Give the option to switch off the "list bibliography" option

While we appreciate it is still in beta mode we would like there to be an option to switch off the "list bibliography" feature. The version of Harvard used here does not match the approved style for RGU and therefore it could cause problems for students by misleading them. Until we have chance to speak to academic staff and ask them to weight the pros and cons we would like to have it turned off.

  12. Search by list owner

It would be helpful as sometimes the only information we have is the lecturer's name and subject area

  13. Include "Editor" in the front screen list view

At the moment, there is no distinction between editors and authors when you bookmark an item - both are labelled as "Author" in the initial metadata. If you edit the metadata to describe an editor as "Editor", that information no longer appears in the front screen list view. We would ideally like the bookmark button to be able to distinguish between the two when bookmarking (as MARC does with the 100/700 field distinction) and we would like Editors to appear in the front screen list view to improve the information available to students in support of good citation practices.

Following phase 3 of the database re-architecture, it is now possible to select multiple lists and remove from My Lists

  15. Change the display of journal article details

The current display of issue, page end, page start, volume is not helpful to our users who would prefer: volume, issue, page start, page end

  16. add a 'back to top' link in a reading list.

To help with long lists instead of a cumbersome long scroll back up.

We're pleased to announce the release of a new feature that users had asked for. When viewing a reading list and starting to scroll down the list, we now have a ‘Back to top’ button that will allow users to jump to the top of the page with one click.

  17. Allow the images of book covers to appear in the actual reading list

In the detailed display there is a small image of the book. One of our student reps is asking for this to be displayed in the actual list as a visual prompt to the book they should be reading. Given we have dyslexic students and many in design related subjects who are visual learners, the more visual the lists could be the better.

  18. Pop-up reminder... to request review/publish

It might help staff to have a reminder to request review/publish when they are making changes to their lists. We have a large number of lists where there are either unpublished changes or staff have forgotten to request review to start up the acquisitions process. A po-up could help draw their attention to further action needed, thank you.

  19. Number of items count to (new) list view

The old list view had a count of the number of items appearing on the reading list in the top left hand corner of the list. This was a useful feature and we note it is not available in the new list view. Could it be returned?

  20. Linking and 'new window' option

I'm aware that (a) web accessibility compliance restricts certain linking behaviours and that (b) Talis are looking at the options to iframe more linked content within Aspire- but I would still like to explore the idea of an additional optional 'Open in a new window' button for the key external outbounds links in Aspire. As an end user I would like to have the option to keep my List in view in one window while navigating my way through outcomes (such as a Library Catalogue- online vendor- e-Content provider) in another. I find the experience of 'losing' my List as…
