Display both print and ebook holdings for one bookmark for the same title (an archived Idea for 2013)
Here at Sussex we're very keen to have this Idea, archived for 2013, available for voting in the 2014 Ideas Forum: http://ideas.talisaspire.com/forums/32805-talis-aspire-reading-lists-ideas-archive/suggestions/4381768-display-both-print-and-ebook-holdings-for-one-book.
We're increasingly buying ebooks in addition to print copies, and it would be extremely useful, both to Library staff and students, to have a single entry for a specific work in Aspire, but with linkage to alternative editions. This would provide users with a choice of available formats depending on their needs, as well as promoting the Library’s collection.

We would like to improve the ability to display as much info that we have about a resource even if it is not the specific format that was originally bookmarked.
A redesign of how we display holdings would probably be required and this is not currently in our short term development focus.
This idea so it has been moved to the longer term backlog. It will be merged with a similar existing idea.
Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

A little late, but I think that would help many students.

Is it a good idea to get help at Cheapwritingservice? Is Cheapwritingservice scam or a reliable? I need writing help, but I hesitate to order papers there.

Could we add two LCN numbers and have the holdings of each be displayed. That would ensure all print and linked eBooks would be shown. We manually add URLs to print records, or conversly print LCN's to eBook bookmarks, but this
is time consuming and very prone to error. It also means that metadata refreshes are not possible (I am lead to believe) -

Maria - do your Bib records for print items on your catalogue contain a link (Marc 856) for the corresponding eBook version? If you generate a bookmark from this print record, then the eBook link will be included in the bookmark Web Address.
Our metadata team add the corresponding eBook link to print Bibs when they arrive. They used to search manually for print generated bookmarks on our branding of Aspire that needed an eBook URL inserted, and add in the URL one at a time, but this slowed down the receiving process.
For bookmarks that need to be retrospectively edited (i.e. for when there are already print Bib generated bookmarks on your Aspire, but missing an eBook link - this happens regularly when the eBook is purchased arrives AFTER the print copies), there is a way of doing this using an all List Items export, and matching this with exported data from your LMS - print Bibs edited between a certain date range that contain a URL. You just need the LCN and the URL.
You then match this data (in Excel) from your LMS with the All List Items export, and do a match on the LCN using VLOOKUP, which formats the data nicely. You end up with a spreadsheet that has the bookmark URL in one column, and the eBook URL that needs to be inserted into the bookmark metadata in the next.
Sorry if this sounds a little complicated - but it's not that difficult if you see it being done! What LMS do you use?

Hey, I don't know if you're already using the workaround but at King's we bookmark the record for the print holdings and then edit resource and copy the hyperlink from the ebook record as an added field. It would be great if Talis could work on this as our way is quite time consuming and can get missed quite easily but as an interim measure our workaround does mean students get both live print holdings info and a link to the eResouce in one place.

This would be really helpful. At the moment, having two records looks a little messy and I fear students may miss one or the other. A combined record would be much more useful, I think. Equally in review it'd be easier to have one, aggregated record, which linked to all editions.

We are interested in this too, partly for usability for students, partly to reduce the length of some of our lists. Claire

I would agree with this. We currently put both print and e-versions on a list, but often during the review stage we see that academics who do their own lists only put one on.
However, it would be useful to have the option to 'opt out' (perhaps a check box that lets you pick only one format?) as our overseas students are not interested in the print books in our collection.
