New Role to View Draft Lists
I would like to suggest a new role that allows the holder to view draft lists but not publiish or edit them.
In our university lists are entered several different ways. Some academics ener lists themselves but lists are usually entered by library staff or departmental administrators. However, academics understandably want to have final say on what appears on their lists and so want to see the draft lists before they are published.
Having to publish lists before the academics can see them mean that students start using the lists before they are really complete. Also if there are major changes needed there is a lot of work for academics and library staff at peak times which could have been completed in quieter periods if the academics could have given feedback on the draft list. This is especially true when a list is passed to a new academic who doesn't have readig list training.
Although we know we could give our academics list publisher permission we do not want to do this until we can give them training. Talis is still a very new system for us and as we do not have a hierarchy it is very important to train all staff in reading list procedures before they can start creating and editing lists.
We think having a role that would allow someone to view a draft list, but be unable to make any edits would be hugely beneficial.
It would help academics working together on a list where one or more does not have reading list training.
It would help administrators inputting lists for academics, allowing them to ask the academics for input without passing on the burden of list creation. Especially important when citations are unclear.
It would help the library staff demonstrate their work and allow them to provide evidence before lists are published and made available to the students.
There might also be benefit to staff who would not normally have Talis permissions, e.g. learning technologists or those assisting in the preparation of materials, to have access to lists before they are published.

It would also be useful to be able to hide sections of lists

That would be excellent. I have academics who don't want training and don't want to edit lists but would like to see them before they go live. Hilla
