When giving list publisher permission, have option to set user as list owner
Sometimes useful to do both at the same time.
We have started a similar sort of solution to this, where when a list owner is assigned, you can choose to give them publisher permission at the same time. The problem with doing it the other way round is that you cannot select an owner if they don’t have a profile in Aspire already, but you may still want to invite that person to be a list publisher.
You're right, I've declined it because as you've pointed out, its not to the letter of what you are asking for. A general overhaul of invitation management is something I would like us to address but its not something we are planning to address in the near future.
I would disagree with marking this idea as "started" then since the response is to do something quite different from what we've asked for (note earlier comments).
Just wanted to check if there's an update and/or the questions below were being addressed? It's really most useful the other way round (i.e. the way we've requested, even if it's not the way you'd find easiest to implement), and important to think through the details and potential flexibility before implementing something in a way that's not very practical. Thanks.
Couldn't Aspire either:
a) check to see if the user has a profile and only offer the List Owner option if it's viable
b) let us assign the list ownership but it only 'activates' when the user signs in and creates their profile
Our subject librarians are relatively used to the invite system now and mostly work with academics and permissions, and it would be great to combine these rather than add a separate step or change their workflow at this stage.
Finally, this choice that you're proposing implementing regarding permissions on ownership, can you reassure us that this will be flexible? I.e. we can set the default ("assign permissions too") to yes or no, and that we can hide this option if necessary (e.g. set default to yes and hide tickbox so mistakes can't be made)? Also does it allow us to choose other roles that the list owner will also require, such as list creator?
