Automatically bookmark videos as "Online Resources"
During our pilot phase, we've noticed that when academics add YouTube or BoB videos to their lists, they generally forget to tick the "Online Resource" box - possibly because they are used to it happening automatically when they bookmark, e.g., articles and ebooks.
It would be useful if online videos could be automatically recognised as "Online Resources" by the bookmarking tool.
At present this does not happen because "audio-visual document" resource type can include, e.g., DVDs listed on a Library catalogue (not an online resource). However, could there not be a workaround similar to the one for ebooks (see: http://support.talis.com/hc/en-us/articles/205644351-How-the-Online-Resource-button-works), where the URL of the resource is used to determine whether or not it is an online resource. E.g. where "https://www.youtube.com/" or "https://learningonscreen.ac.uk/" (BoB) is the base URL, the item is automatically created as an online resource.
Rob Challis, University of Bristol

We have introduced an improvement when bookmarking audiovisual items. Previously the 'Online Resource' box was not automatically ticked when a user bookmarked an item with a URL (eg a YouTube video), so items often needed to be manually corrected. Now when a user bookmarks these items, if a URL is detected, then we will automatically tick the box, ensuring that a View Online button appears when the item is added to a list.

Adding our support to this. The vast majority of our 'audio-visual documents' on our lists are online resources. Ideally, a separate resource type category to identify online audio-visual content would be nice.

I believe the majority of video resources would be online resources, so it makes sense to set them automatically as Online Resources, and if they are a DVD, then we could take off the Online Resource button. That makes more sense to me in 2021. :) One of my staff members had a list that included over 60 YouTube videos, so she had to go in and make each an online resource.

This would reduce our maintenance workload. Could w we also look at extending it to the document category

This would be incredibly useful. As we roll out Talis Aspire at our institution its being raised frequently. Its rare that physical DVDs are being added to reading lists and much more common its online videos such as YouTube.

This would be very useful to us, it's a frequently reported issue from our academic staff.

Hello,
We would also like to support this development as it makes it much easier to add BoB items if is automatically recognised as 'Online Resource'. It also makes it easier to update our Alternative Formats lists.
