Option of Student Numbers defaulting to hierarchy not list
We have student numbers for our modules stored in our student administration system. We want to be able to upload this information through the hierarchy into Aspire, and this be the definitive student number for the lists. Academics editing the list however, are able to add their own numbers, and this is the number which is shown in Reviews 2.0 i.e. list numbers have precedence over hierarchy upload numbers. We would like to be able to choose which number is set as the default – hierarchy or list number

We are looking to explore this further and make changes to the way the hierarchy is used within Talis Aspire.

Yes Laura - we have just discovered this, we had assumed the lists were updated as part of this process. It does seem illogical that these actions are not linked. An update would be appreciated, thanks - Nick

Hi Laura - is there an update on this?

It's bonkers that data coming into the system automatically from trusted central systems does not take priority over data supplied manually, which may or may not be accurate, in a different part of the system. If student figures really need to be held in two different levels of the hierarchy (module and list), then at least display both figures in a review otherwise the reviewer does not get the accurate information.

We are similarly starting batch updating student numbers from the student records system, but have hit this problem whereby any manually-entered figures won't be updated. Library staff have manually entered data and may continue to do so in between batch updates, but the uploaded data must always take priority. Hoping this will be implemented very soon!

We upload student numbers into the hierarchy twice a year, and would like to use this number as the 'source of truth'. Our academic staff are responsible for editing their own lists. Asking them to update student numbers as well would not be popular, therefore we'd like the option to be able to use the hierarchy student number as the default.

At the University of Nottingham we have recently started updating the hierarchy on a regular basis with student numbers from our student records system. We would like these to be reflected in the reading list student numbers to help with acquisitions processes in reviews. So, this idea would allow us to made the most of our hierarchy updates and help improve library work flows. Is there any update on when this might be implemented?

Very excited to see this has been changed to "planned"!

If we could trust the student numbers in Reviews 2.0 (i.e. remove the human element!), it would streamline our purchasing workflows immeasurably. Implementing this option would help us achieve that.

We would like to begin uploading student numbers from our admin system to use in Reviews in preference to any added manually by list editors / publishers. We currently only use Reviews for digitisation. We would need consistent student numbers at all times of the year if we were to begin using Reviews for purchasing (we buy multiple copies of Essential books according to a student number ratios).

We also have student numbers for our modules which we get from our student registry. We upload the through the heirachy to Talis lists - however we want this number to be the number that gets pulled through to the review section - we have centralised reading list purchasing which is formula / ratio driven. the numbers we upload are definitive numbers - and would like this reflected in precedence and displayed as the default if available.
