  1. Addition of MARC Note fields (500 range) mapping

We are suggesting consideration of expanding the current MARC to Talis mapping to include Note tags (500 range).
    Current mapping: http://support.talisaspire.com/entries/382722-How-are-attributes-mapped-from-source-metadata-to-Talis-Aspire-bibliographic-fields-

A broad range of important information is included in these fields, especially for multimedia material.

    For example:
SUMMARY 520 Feature film from Japan. Anime. Their mother killed in an air raid, their soldier father's fate unknown, siblings Setsuko and Seita try to survive in World War II ravaged Japan.
    NOTE 500 Broadcast date: 4/1/2007
NOTE 500 English language version of 1988 Japanese original 'Hotaru no haka'.
    NOTE 500 DVD
NOTE 506 AVAILABLE TO UQ STAFF AND STUDENTS ONLY.

We will not be focusing on this due to low votes. This idea has been declined and moved to the archive.

  2. Dashboard to be made visible for a draft list.

Our Academics are keen on using the Dashboard facility when a list is published, however we in the Library would like to have this facility available to us for use whilst we are checking editions and metadata before we publish the list. This would enable us to improve the "health" of the list and check out alternatives before it was published. We feel that this would allow us to improve our service to the end user.

  3. Talis Aspire images from Syndectics

Very few images of book covers are appearing on our reading lists and the empty image icon stating that no image is available has attracted adverse comments from our technical staff. If we could link to Syndetics which we use to supply images for our library catalogue, then the reading lists would look much more visually appealing and encourage take-up Talis Aspire by staff and students

  4. Create mailing lists of users

We would like the ability to create user lists for emailing purposes, so that when, for example, the rollover period is due, we can email all list owners who will be affected. It would also be useful to filter such lists based on role.

  5. Link review stages to email addresses to receive alert

When we set a review to, for example, the digitisation stage, we want the digitisation team inbox to receive an alert. With the ordering stage, we want the ordering team to receive an email alert, so anyone in that team can pick it up.

As it stands, we have to set up fake users with team email addresses for the alerts which is unnecessarily complicated.

We are making any change to review stages and notifications as part of the changes we are making to reviews

  6. Add ability to select multiple time periods for a list

This semester I have worked on several lists which have multiple concurrent teaching periods, eg. for units where there is an off-campus or flexible hours option alongside the standard on-campus one. This cannot be reflected in Aspire as it is only possible to assign a single time period to a list.

    This is a problem because:

    1. It means the teaching period given on the reading list is not accurate. We'd obviously prefer to give students correct information, and it's important that library staff use the proper time periods when doing a number of tasks, such as putting items on reserve…

We have started a similar sort of solution to this, where when a list owner is assigned, you can choose to give them publisher permission at the same time. The problem with doing it the other way round is that you cannot select an owner if they don’t have a profile in Aspire already, but you may still want to invite that person to be a list publisher.

  8. adding more icons to lists as the ebook icon is useful.

Icons showing other eresource types would be useful e.g. ejournals, DVDs, video streaming such as BoB (Box of Broadcasts).

Icons for print items also needed.

All would help staff/students to identify material.

  9. Allowing custom HTML to be supplied via Bookseller API

We would like to be able to customise the text and button associated with the Bookseller widget. This would allow us to add branding via an image and use CSS styling to match our campus book shop.

A new element could be added to the XML generated by the webservice to accommodate this. If it is absent, the widget can generate the text and button with default styling, but if it is present then the supplied HTML can be used instead.

The HTML could be supplied as a CDATA section and simply output on the screen.

We believe the Bookseller API serves its functionality to display bookstore availability information to the student and a direct link to the bookstore. We do not intend to enable custom HTML for this widget

  10. Bulk text editing

It would be great to be able to add text to all lists within a tenancy (and even better to also be able to add to all list within a defined area of the hierarchy.

  11. library availability - multiple links

At the moment there is only one link available to check for library availability. We have Primo, and different views (and therefore different links) for our different campuses. It would be useful to have the option to display more than one link here so that students can check the availability at their site

  13. Display name of person who created and last edited list

I would like to see a ‘Created by’ field in the information at the top of a published list. As an administrator I want to know who has published a list.

IJC Note: Amended idea title from 'Display list publisher' to provide fuller description of rqmt, and make it easier to find via searching!

We have introduced user profiles which allow us to show the list owner on the list, which also displays when it was created and last updated. The recent changes section displays recent additions and deletions in publish actions made on the list. We would like to add the person who made those changes but that has been de-prioritised at the moment. The name of the creator and last editor of the list will not be added to the list view

  14. Bookmarking e-resources from the Library catalogue

When we are bookmarking an e-resource from the Library catalogue (Prism 3) the url that is appearing in the Aspire bookmark is the one in the 856 of the Marc record. As a Talis customer, we have used the Hotlink table to hold our MMU specific hotlinks, so the url in the 856 does not necessarily match what is in the hotlink table. We are currently setting up work flows for library and academic staff, and concerned that the simple bookmarking from Prism 3 for e-resourcesis not going to work, and we will have to manually copy these urls from…

Technically, we are unable to achieve this because Prism 3 does not expose the hotlinks information.

We will be investigating how to make improve 856 display and there are other ideas relating to that, however we are unable to satisfy this particular idea.

  15. Return 'View my Bookmarks' option to Bookmarklet tutorial

The new style Bookmarklet tutorial (complete with browser pre-checking) is much improved. However, the walkthrough of the 'View my Bookmarks' option has been lost. Can this be reinstated to the guide?

  16. Buy this - user message in response to no match with supplier

When the Item Availability look-up on a customer's library catalogue does not return a response, a message is presented to the user indicating this and suggesting that they call the catalogue directly from the 'Borrow this' button for more details in the native interface of the catalogue.

When an Amazon look-up for the 'Buy it' option fails to return a response (because the item is not held in stock in Amazon, or is currently unavailable for sale) it would be helpful to have a similar user prompt. At present, when the 'Buy it' look-up fails to return an availability response…

  17. Search field visible on every page

We have received feedback from a user asking if there could be a search field visible on every page (i.e. in the navigation bar with "Home", "My Lists" etc.) as having to go back to the homepage to start a search every time seems like an unnecessary step.

  18. Review 2.0 Review outcome colour coding

In Reviews 2.0 all the review outcomes show on list overview as a white tick on a grey background. Some require further action e.g. the item needs digitising or extra copies are required but many require no further action. It would be useful to have different colours or icons assigned to items to be actioned. I realise that each client chooses their own outcomes so this might be difficult to map but would be beneficial if possible.

  19. Word format output from reading lists

Add Word format (or even plain text) to the options for outputting from the lists.

Members of teaching staff are using our lists to cut and past information in to documents and it would be much easier to do this from Word than from PDf or RIS formats.
If Word is not possible, a txt file would be a good second best.
    Thanks

  20. importance

Would it be possible for the Importance field to be highlighted or made more prominent in the right hand pane of the review 'view' please? There is a great deal of useful info on the review screen now but it's useful to be able to see certain things at a glance - our purchasing is dependent on set importance.

    Thanks
