  1. Add options to the look-up for IsPartof/HasPart items

For item records which include an HasPart/IsPartof element the look-up function should appear under the isPartof tab (rather than the HasPart tab, as at present).

Where an Item record is a Book Chapter or Journal Article, when selecting the look-up (for LCN, ISBN or DOI), Aspire should prompt the user - 'Do you wish to update the entire record, or only the Book/Journal tab?' - giving users the option either to overwrite the entire record or to retain the HasPart element while refreshing the IsPartOf

We have introduced the metadata refresh and this may have fulfilled the need raised in this idea as that doesn’t override the chapter detail.

We are going to decline this idea due to the low number of votes and the length of time this idea has been open with no further interest.

If this is still an area you would like to see further enhancements made please do raise again.

  2. My Lists display - filter to current temporal period

With the assignment of temporal values to lists (e.g. year) 'My Lists' lists could become long for those customers using a combination of rollover and devolved permissions. Where one or more temporal values were set in a tenancy, the My Lists display could default to the current temporal period - in effect, showing academics their currently active lists by default (with a 'See all' option to open up the display to all lists)

For academics the latest list they are working on will appear at the top for adding resources and when using the LTI integration you can use regexes so that an academic only sees the current years lists when embedding in the VLE/LMS.

We are going to decline this idea due to the low number of votes and the length of time this idea has been open with no further interest.

If this is still an area you would like to see further enhancements made please do raise again.

  3. Being able to use symbol for web page link

We can use our link resolver symbol to provide a link from the DOI on the list page, it would be useful if this symbol could also be used for symbol for web link against web address to allow consistency across items on lists so students know what to click on to access resource

We will not be focusing on this due to low votes in the 2012 ideas survey

  4. When editing a Bookmark - make preview screen available again

Several of our staff working on lists have commented that it would be useful if, when editing a bookmark, you were able to view the item in the preview screen again, as they often need to copy more data across manually into 'added' field.

We will not be focusing on this due to low votes in the 2012 ideas survey. The preview provided during bookmarking is session based and we cannot guarantee that the page from which an item is bookmarked will always be in the same state at a later date.

  5. Removing filing under stopwords in the hierachy

Modules that start with The are filed under 't' in the listings.

  6. Aspire feedback adds as new idea to Idea Portal

The 'Feedback' option on the Aspire main menu currently adds sends an email to that specific customer and through to Talis. However- I think it would be far better to have that feedback to link through to the Idea Portal where the feedback can be added and shared amongst everyone. I think this would be especially interesting in capturing student or academic feedback. alongside that of all the libraries.

As we update our UI we will look at ways of improving the feedback within Aspire. However, feedback is not necessarily an idea which should come straight to the ideas portal. We will revisit this at a later date

  7. Numbering Entries in Draft View

Numbering entries aids the accuracy of inputting lists providing a check that all items are added to the list. It also helps when comparing a current list against that of a previous year. Additionally it gives an instant visual guide to the size of the list in terms of resourcing.

  8. The user does not have to install the bookmark tool manually

It may encourage more new users if they do not have to install the bookmarklet tool themselves before beginning to add resources and creating lists. It seems a small thing but given that several of our new users seems to have had problems installing it for various reasons- that is the sort of thing that puts people off. I don't know if this would be technically possible.

The manual installation of a bookmarklet button is typical of use of a bookmarklet e.g. Pinterest, del.i.cious, Amazon. We are looking at improving the instructions and method of actually installing the bookmarklet as well as investigating methods of bypassing the bookmarlet to bookmark.

  9. Interim communications of purchase requests

Until the 'blue skies' project is delivered- but ater the basic export tool- we would vote for each purchase request to be individually emailed to an address we can give you. This allows the request to be targeted to individual subject librarians.

  10. Resources submitted for review

This is one- after discussion- that we don't think works for our workflow. We would rather have a process for each item 'recommended for purchase' to follow the admitidly 'blue sky' approach outlined in other ideas- than to have the academics send us complete lists close to the start of term.

I think we are looking at capturing requirements as early as possible to allow the kind of lead time material supply can take. Waiting for the academic to 'complete' a list for all requests to come to us would see a spike in demand which we could really do…

  11. Personal Study Notes

Our focus group students had mixed views on whether they would use the personal study note option for individual items. Several said they would be more inclined to use this if there was an indication of 'Note Added' on the main list against any resource they had added a note to.

Declined, as this is not a specific idea per-say, but useful feedback all the same. Also the feature described about “Note Added” already exists – any items with notes will have the text “You have made a note on this” in the right margin in the list view.

  12. Changing fonts in display

From one of our academics ...

Is it possible to incorporate different fonts/colours/sizes to words in section headings- section entries and notes on each list item?  The old version- whilst not being entirely versatile did have this option for pre- and post- item entries

Our research shows that customers increasingly want to protect their online brand identities and control tightly how web pages sanctioned by the University are displayed. This is why we chose not to carry this feature over from Talis List as it would allow users to manipulate text and colours outside the parameters set by University style guides.

  13. Font size

    From an Academic ...

Another idea is to increase the font size of titles in the bookmarks and lists for those of us that wear glasses...

Major browsers already include this functionality – from Firefox for example, use Ctrl + and Ctrl – to increase and decrease text size.

  14. Spellcheck

I would also like to be able to spell check my entries

As discussed int he comments, with Firefox and IE both offering spellcheck options, I have closed this idea

  15. Purchase approval - additional information

The approval element from the 'recommendation management' area should include the ability for information on location- number of copies and fund to be used

  16. Bookmark associated with purchase request

As the majority of purchase requests will be made from a site other than the LMS or 'approved' university resources- we need to ensure that the bookmark created is highlighted as a purchase request. (Perhaps shaded into a different colour).

Academics should be guided not to use this bookmark in lists until a purchase is approved and the item available.
