  1. Resource type: Other

    However extensive the resource type taxonomy becomes, there will always be fringe cases, exceptions and oddities. At present, the only options in such cases are to select the least worst match or the unfathomable 'Generic document'. An 'Other' category would be a more preferrable means to classify non-standard materials (and could be used for reporting/review to identify the types of material not being fully accounted for)

  2. Node level "List creator" role

    We would like to give list creator roles at a node or department level. At the moment, it is only available at tenancy level. We would like to limit users' ability to create lists anywhere, but allow them to create them as necessary in their department's area.

    We are not going to focus on this right now but we do plan to visit this as part of a wider look at how we manage scoping and hierarchy

  3. Resource Type - Event

    We're seeing academics add materials to resource lists which are effectively temporal 'events' of some kind which students are expected to attend (physically or virtually) as part of their research.

    'Events' could incorporate Exhibitions, live Webinars, Lectures, Screenings, Seminars, Conferences, Plays, Training sessions, et al

  4. Resource Type - Review

    Academics quite regularly add Reviews and review articles (from academic journals, professional publications and newspapers) for students to critically evaluate.

  5. being able to publish a list when adding an item

    It would be really useful when in the 'Create and Add' dialogue box, to be able to publish the change immediately, maybe even ask for a review.

    This would potentially make a real impact on the time someone needs to spend updating their list, allowing a lecturer to update very quickly without needing go in to the list at all; rather than adding a resource, which creates a new draft, which then needs to be accessed and published (and reviewed).

  6. Allowing attachments of PDFs

    ... (subject to copyright) for user created bookmarks. There's no telling where online reports etc get moved to, and uploading to a public dropbox and then pasting the URL seems long-winded.

    We won’t be focusing on this now due to low votes in the 2012 Ideas Survey. However, we do feel that the ability to attach documents to reading lists would be useful, so its in our longer term backlog

  7. Ability to know who deleted a node

    We just discovered that a module had disappeared and Support were only able to tell us that someone had deleted it. It was definitely loaded and viewed in Aspire before. It is disappointing that we can't tell who deleted it when; can this be made possible, either for us or Support?
    I do realise this Idea partly relates to the "More granular set of edit node permissions required" - if that were implemented, the ability to delete a node could be tied down much more and at least the pool of potential deleters would be more limited!

  8. Extend ISBN API

    Two extensions to the ISBN look-up API would significantly extend its utility -

    1. For each matching list return the numeric value of the priority status of the item (1, 2, 3)

    -- It would be very useful to be able to display importance alongside occurence

    1. Support 'OR' requests (allowing multiple ISBNs to be added to a single call)

    -- With a JSON [or other] string for each ISBN match

  10. Library Review report - submission to completion

    Submission to Completion reporting - for a given date range, report on how long library reviews took from the time of academic request of a review of a List to library completion. (Currently the All Reviews screen itself does not timestamp the Completed action; but libraries are likely to want to report on their processing times for submitting lists [perhaps against SLAs, KPIs and the like].)

  11. network file bookmark

    not sure if I missed something, one of our academics asked if it were possible to bookmark a network file
    file://server/share/path/reallyUseful.doc

    naturally it would only be visible inside the university, so a restricted access label would be required

    I have suggested locating it on a web page or eLearning site, but he would like the option anyway

    We will not be focusing on this now due to low votes in the 2012 ideas survey However, we think this is a valuable idea and is something we will wish to investigate in the future, so its on our longer term backlog

  12. Allow invites scoped to multiple points in the hierarchy to be sent in one batch

    At the moment an administrator must send a separate invite email for each list or module they would like a user to have permissions over.

    On completion of this story administrators would be able to send one invite allowing users the same permission over multiple lists or modules.

  13. Improved handling of expired sessions

    When a user has left their Aspire view inactive for a period of time sufficient for their session to expire, clicking on a permissions based action (like an Edit action) produces the plain text error

    You do not have permission to edit this resource (403)

    Could such a expired session request be routed instread back to the Tenancy appropriate login? screen?

  14. In-line Box of Broadcast (BoB) materials

    BoB is a system that is going to be very important in the HE sector in the near future - either from the National BoB or locally implemented. Cambridge Imaging and BUFVC are the external partners to talk to on this.

  15. Give Library staff the ability to view Aspire as another role would see it

    Moodle has a very useful feature whereby staff roles have the option to view Moodle pages as another role would see them (eg Student). While Aspire reading lists have Student View, it would be really helpful if those with the most-permissions roles (eg Library staff) could choose to view as if they only had the permissions of a lesser role (eg List Publisher).

    We often find when attempting to help academic staff with Aspire that there is confusion about what those staff can or can't see on their screen, as Library staff with the Acquisitions role have more permissions and…
