  1. Adding a note for library staff use

There are a number of scenarios where we would like to make a note against a request to flag up some special circumstances which apply to that request.

    For example:

    1) Explaining we are copyright compliant where it might look like we're not e.g. where page numbers look excessive/two sections of book which make up less than 5%

    2) Explaining a discrepancy with the catalogue e.g. looks like we have an electronically available copy/sub but is actually a catalogue error

    3) Renewals note e.g. determined at renewal that although there's a newer edition it doesn't have relevant chapter so will…

  2. Deletion of bookmark with request linked to it

I would like to request some sort of communication to be sent to the requester and to the Digitisation Service when a bookmark is deleted and has a digitisation request linked to it.

Our experience was with deletion of a bookmark with the request pending to be processed.

There was no automated communication to the requester to notify him/her that the deletion was for a bookmark that had a digitisation request attached to it.
There was no communication from the system to let the Digitisation Service or Admin side of TADC know that the bookmark had been deleted and therefore…

  3. Ability to place a TADC digitisation in more than one place in a list

Items quite often appear twice in our reading lists - Once in the recommended texts and then later on in the list in a weekly reading section

It would be useful to have an easy way to put the same TADC digitisation in more than one place in a list

This is not currently in our near term development focus but is something we woudl like to explore in the future

It has been placed into moved to the longer term backlog.

Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

  4. Allow academics/requestors ability to preview uploaded scans prior to course commencement

Once a scan has been uploaded and we advise academics tthat it is now available on their reading list, they would like to actually view the pdf to ensure it is the correct item and sufficent quality, prior to the course commencement date when it becomes available to students.

  5. Ability to search digital content module by bibliographic detail

Could it be made possible to search the digital content module by bibliographic detail?

This would allow us to check whether a particular extract is already in the collection and locate it, also to be aware of multiple articles from the same journal, etc.

Whilst the concierge checks the vault and copy limits on any requests received, there may be a need to check in advance of placing a request by digitisation staff, so improved searching is something we would like to address but is not currently in our near term development focus.

It has been placed into moved to the longer term backlog.

Ideas may be graduated from the backlog as we get through the ones that are planned.

  6. The ability to reply to a request, or ask for further information

There may be times when we would wish to enter a dialogue with the academic, particularly where the academic has overridden the concierge. At present there only seems to be the option to either reject or process these requests. We would like to be able to ‘reply’ to a request and to have a ‘pending reply’ type status while we clarify what is required. (I’m thinking for example of a response like “the pages you have selected exceed the maximum permissible. This appears to be because the pages you have selected do not quite tally with the chapter in this…

  7. Ability to report on time taken to fulfil requests

We would like to be able to run a report detailing the length of time requests take to be filled, so that we look at establishing sensible KPIs and identify any persistent issues.

  8. The ability to suppress the "Request Digitisation" link next to e-books in reading lists

We don't ever digitise from titles where we own an ebook version.

To avoid pointless requests and wasting the requester's time, we'd like the ability to suppress the "Request Digitisation" link for ebook items in reading lists.

That is, we don't want that link to appear to users if format = ebook.

I understand there will be a future development theme on integration between Digitised Content and Reading List modules - could this be considered under that theme?

  9. Statistics - Tracking individual users

At the moment Statistics - Views, print & downloads - show general usage but it does not show the statistics for individual users. What we get at the moment is the total amount of traffic (e.g. views and downloads) but we cannot tell when a single student opens an article 10 times: currently, the result we get is 10 views, but being able to track single users the result would be also 1 single view.

In this way, we would be able to compare and verify the exact number of students/lecturers who are using the system and not only the…

  11. Greater prominence for notes in scan "declined" notification

We would like the individual notes from TADC administrators to have greater prominence in the notification email that goes out to requesters when a scan is declined.

This year we've had an unprecedented number of emails from academics who have been confused about why a scan request has been declined - even though the exact reason was contained within the notification email. The note from the TADC administrator which can be added at the point of rejecting the request (e.g. "Note from Rob Challis: Book available electronically. Direct link added to resource list.") is hidden at the bottom of the…

  12. Automatic notification of the need to renew digitised readings

We would like to receive a notice when digitised readings are about to expire. It would also be useful to have the ability to automatically inform the module leader of this, to see if they want the item renewed for another year.

  13. Ability to amend a URL when linking a digitisation to a Reading list in Aspire

We had an incidence when a digitisation request was raised by one of our Library staff and they inadvertently linked the digitisation to the wrong URL within the reading list in aspire.
Instead of being able to delete the incorrect URL and replacing it with the correct one, the complete request had to be withdrawn and resubmitted.
It would have been great if we could have just changed the URL and reloaded the original request.
    Would this be possible please?

  14. Ability to change dates on 'Live' digitisations

Being able to change dates on 'live' digitisations would greatly improve our ability to manage requests and lessen the amount of re-submits we have to do. It would clear up our queues and expedite any requests made of our team, therefore improving our service significantly.

  15. Adding a date to Notes to Library

We would like to see a date added in Notes to Library for back-end TADC use. Currently when library staff report on notes there is no date field included making it impossible to tell when notes were added. This will help with managing actions recorded in the notes field and ensure timely response.

  16. Requesting digitisation of documents

The ability to request digitisation of resources when they are given the resource type of 'document'.

Similar to idea 'Requesting digitisation of legal resource' but for documents more generally.

The requesting of documents is something Talis are working towards. Currently Talis Aspire Digitised Content only enables you to upload materials that require copyright clearance, but the Talis Player will not only enable you to upload material that needs to be copyright cleared, but also other materials.

Talis have been working with beta partners to develop this, and we will keep you up to date with the wider release of this through the usual updates (webinars, newsletters, events etc).

  17. Display the status 'Digitisation Pending' in Reading list view in TARL

During the time gap between when Library staff click on the Request Digitisation link from a bookmark in TARL, and Library staff uploading a digitised file into TADC, having the status 'Digitisation Pending' displayed in the Reading list view in TARL, so students, academics and staff can identify why a resource on their reading list may not yet be available electronically.

The message that a digitisation is pending now appears in the academic view when editing a list so staff and academics will see this.

We will continue to review the need for this in the student view.

  18. TADC number in New List Edit

Currently in New List Edit the status of any digitisation requests appears (live, referred, rejected etc.) but it would be useful if the TADC number could also be displayed. It would be even better if this number could be hyperlinked to the TADC request page to enable quick access to the request.

  19. Link to the catalogue from the request details

It would be useful to be able to link directly to the catalogue when reviewing a request, so that we can see where it is, whether it’s available and then make intersite/reservation requests etc if necessary.

  20. The option to suppress an automatic notification from being sent to a requester when action is taken on a digitisation

We would like to be able to suppress an automatic notification email from being sent to a requester when action is taken on a digitisation request.

We've recently been carrying out post-rollover cleanup and would like to avoid spamming or confusing academics when, for example, we identify a request that was removed from the reading list several years ago and has only just been picked up by the rollover improvement, and now needs withdrawing. It is time consuming to type out an explanation essentially asking them to ignore the email.
We realise you can change the email address of the…
