How can we improve Talis Aspire Reading Lists?

Resource Type - Film

We have a large film collection and also subscribe to BoB.

It would be great to have a resource Type for Audio-Visual materials as book can be misleading as we may have a film and book of the same title.

If can it also default to appropriate fields then that would be even more efficient.

Had a look into this for you. These are the rules we use for identifying if something is a AV item from the MARC record:

    1) Data Field '653' subfield 'a' should not be equal to 'phd'

    2) Data Field '653' subfield 'a' should not be equal to 'thesis'

    3) Data Field '650' subfield 'v' should not be equal to 'periodicals'

    4) Data Field '610' subfield 'v' should not be equal to 'periodicals'

    5) Data Field '022' subfield 'a' should be null and Data Filed '020' subfield 'a' should not be equal to null

    6) Data Field '610' subfield 'v' should not be equal to 'thesis'

    7) Data Field '856' subfield 'u' should be URL and URL should contain "www.teachers.tv" in host name and must have "video" in URI

    8) Or if all the above conditions return empty value Leader filed has 7th character equal to 'g' or 'k' or 'r' or Controlfield subtag '006' contains first character as 'g' or 'k' or 'r' or Controlfield subtag '007' contains first character as 'g' or 'k' or 'm' or 'v'

    9) Or if all the above conditions return null value then we consider data field "245" subfiled "h" after removing first small letter alphabet or number, value should be equal "dvd" or "filmstrip" or "motionpicture" or "videocassette" or "videorecording"

There is already a resource type for audio visual - you can set it when you bookmark (use resource type dropdown) or when yu edit a resource metadata.

If bookmarking from your library catalogue, I think it will also detect certain MARC fields in the 00x or leader and set this - I'll check that for you.
