  1. Additional field 'Editor' in bookmarklet

    Sometimes monographs have authors of individual chapters but an overall editor. It is misleading to add their names as authors of the book in the 'Is Part of' tab when citing digitised chapters. Including 'Editor' as an optional additional field would improve these citations.

  2. All items report - additional values

    One of the most obvious uses for the All Items report in the Reports section is to profile resources in a Tenancy by Type. Can the report be extended to include - Type (to enable a report on the spread of Types) and by a value which would distinguish electronic from non-electronic resource (such as the inclusion of a DOI or Web address), so that the split between electronic and non-electronic items can easily be calculated.

    This report has already been improved to include type and the DOI. Web address has now been included in the CSV export also

  3. Display the 'Term' of lists in the Reports results

    Is it possible to show the 'Term' for a list in the new Reports function results? For management statistics we are often comparing one year to another and we have recently decided that we will keep the current year and the previous 2 years of lists on Aspire before archiving a list.

    Time period is now one of the columns and filters in teh All Lists BETA report

  4. Enabling lists to be sorted by importance

    Allow a student to be able to see resources on a list grouped by their assigned importance i.e. all the essential reading, all the recommended etc

  5. Tenancy level custom 404 pages

    Where a deep-link to a location in a Tenancy is malformed and produces a 404 error (such as http://resourcelists.ntu.ac.uk/modules/snbx/lists) Aspire you not present a generic 404 dead-end but a custom 404 capture page - including navigation options and links and the ability to report the error.

  6. Allow administrators to manually create or edit hierarchy nodes (schools, modules, courses)

    Users with the node administrator permission will be able to create new or edit existing nodes (schools, courses, modules) in the hierarchy (i.e. the node name, code, description and parent).

  7. Implement devolved permissions

    On completion of this story, users would be assigned roles on login according to what is sent across in the SAML Response. These roles would be sourced from a central authority outside of Aspire.

    Running in this mode, Aspire would no longer have control or responsibility over how roles are assigned to users, and would be merely taking a lead from information passed in the response. The process for a user assuming a role would occur outside the system boundary.

  8. Alternative authority catalogue for physical stock items not held by local library

    We're thinking through how the Bookmark tool could better support academic creation of a list where an academic wants to add items not yet held by the library (which may be subsequently purchased). To ensure that the library gets a good quality Bibliographic record from which to work, is it possible that alternative catalogues, such as COPAC (http://copac.ac.uk/) or the BL catalogue (http://catalogue.bl.uk/) could be configured to work with the bookmarking tool. We could then clearly advise academics: "If you don't find it in the library catalogue, try COPAC or the BL." I'm not currently clear…

    We’re currently assessing the best way to implement this. We’ve been in contact with COPAC and are looking at Open Library. A solution closer to home would be to utilise the union catalog held in Talis Base.
    My initial investigations show that coverage could be extended to WorldCat (and others) by making use of COINS metadata to pass the identifiers to Aspire, whereby Aspire would then look up those in your local catalog first, and then a union (if there was no local record).
    We plan to implement this feature during September.

  9. Making setting the importance of an item for Acquisition more obvious

    Marking the importance of items on a list is essential information in order for the Library to ensure additional copies and new titles are ordered when resourcing a course. I would like to see the 'importance' drop-down list and 'note to library field' having a higher visibility . I think this needs to be done at the point of adding an item to a list - - currently a tutor would need to go back into each item they have added to a list to mark the 'importance'.     Talis Aspire Reading Lists (TARL) – Profile screen in Talis Aspire Reading Lists no longer asks for ‘Main Discipline’, this was based on feedback, that it didn’t cover enough variation or localisation on subjects. As it wasn’t mandatory, no meaningful trends could be gleamed from the data available so we decided this was no longer adding value and have therefore removed. We will keep an open watch on this to see the feedback that we get from this being removed.

  11. Pending Digitised Content Requests to display in Review list

    While a list is been reviewed it will be good to have an extra column in Review lists, where the pending digitisation requests could display. This will make the reviewer aware that there is a pending digitisation request instead of placing the book in a Reserve Collection.

  12. All List Items Report to include Student Notes

    We would find it useful for the All List Items Report to include Student Notes, just like it includes Library Notes.
    With a Library managed list building model, we would like to use this as an overall quality control including checks for typos and consistency of message and to check on bookmarks created for chapters which we weren't able to scan due to copyright restrictions (as we include a Student Note to direct the student to the chapter in this instance).
    At the moment, it's only possible to see this information list by list.

  13. Reviewing draft list - difficult to read text with a grey background

    When reviewing a list the item area is greyed out if the review is for a draft list. It's not easy to read the text with a grey background. The only way to stop a draft list from being a draft is to publish it but we don't want to publish a list until a review is completed. If it’s necessary to warn staff that the list being reviewed is a draft list, we would like this information to be displayed in some other way.

  14. "Back to list" in item should go to back to where user has come from in list

    Some of our lists are quite long. From the user's point of view if they click into an item to view it and then "Go back to list" they are always taken back to the very top of the list. It would be much better if they could be returned to the point in the list they left ... or at least to the section they left. Going back to the very top of a long list is quite annoying for users.

  15. Supress 'no copies held' on e books

    Under the Library Availability banner when we have an Electronic book, we would like to suppress "no copies held" - we think that it will confuse our students

    We have made some changes to the library availability display. Where an eBook is detected, we display an appropriate message instead of the availability information. This was in our last release

  16. Linking to Ex Libris Primo

    We are changing our catalogue from Ex Libris Voyager to Ex Libris Primo next year. Currently, there is no bookmark in Aspire that recognises Primo. We are hoping that Talis will be able to develop one

  17. Draft view - functional Preview

    Liasison Libarians have requested that links in Draft lists be enable - effectively providing a 'Preview' of what the published list will look like and if its links work as expected. At present, there is no way for academics to check the veracity of their linking (or of the library look-up for their Items) ahead of publication.

  18. Separator for multiple authors

    Where a resource has multiple authors the names are currently separated by a comma. This could be confusing for a non-Librarian as a comma is also used between first name and last name. Could a semi-colon be to separate authors instead?

  19. Implement time periods within Aspire

    Allow an administrator to specify a list of time periods in Aspire. A time period is made up of a label, a start date and an end date (example - "Autumn Term 10/11", "1st Sept 2010", "31st December 2010").

    List editors will be able to optionally assign a list to a given time period.

    The time period will be visible from the list outline view, and also within the linked lists table on the module view.

    An extension of the linking API will be developed so that the VLE can link directly to all lists for a given time period,…

    With the completion of the API work this is now complete

  20. Allow administrators to create new areas of the hierarchy via a bulk upload facility

    This would allow administrators to add to the modules and structure already inside Aspire using the standard format already defined in the data conversion and tenancy implementation process.

    This would not allow bulk changes or removals from the existing hierarchy.
