  1. Linking to more than one bookshop

We would like to be able to link to more than one bookshop as then we can support our local bookshop via Hive and also offer Amazon purchasing for items not available locally. Also this would enable us to use the Amazon images while still offering access to the local bookshop

this is an interesting idea and whilst it has low votes and there are no plans currently to implement, i am keeping this under review for consideration

  2. Ability to bulk delete lists

Where there are a lot of lists to delete the ability to bulk delete them would save an enormous amount of time.

  3. Bookmarking from PubMed and using PMID

Our Bioscientists would like you to improve bookmarking from PubMed and to be able to use the pub med id pmid number like DOI.

PMID can be used like DOI to retrieve citation information for an article. Both 360 link and SFX openurl resolvers can create a link and a citation using a PMID. Could you please consider adding this functionality to Talis Aspire

This idea has been moved to the archive forum. It is something we would like to investigate further but is a lower priority than other items at the moment. We will review this again when looking at bookmarking improvements.

  4. Add publication date in bookmarks list

Year of publication is not displayed in the list of bookmarks. This is particularly important to academics as units often use various editions of the text book and need to be able to differentiate between the editions. Is it possible to add a column for Year of Publication in the bookmarks list?

Related to this, in My Lists, the date of publication needs to display in the bookmarks in the right column, to easily differentiate between editions when adding bookmarks to lists.

  5. Edit dropdown menu for teaching periods when creating a new list

When a new list is created, the options to select the teaching period are arranged in chronological order from oldest to newest. Given the large number of teaching periods that we currently have in the Monash tenancy, this makes it a slow task to find the latest, relevant teaching period.

At Monash, our preference is to be given edit rights to add and remove the teaching periods from this drop down menu at will rather than submitting a Support Task; which is easy to forget to do.

  6. OPAC link in review visible on main list

It would be good to have the option to set a filter or add an extra column in the initial list screen in Review so that you can see the OPAC link. This would allow the reviewer to view existing stock without having to open the title. This would save time where titles are in-stock and copies sufficient

We are exploring some ideas around this as part of the reviews work we are doing

  7. Enhance the LTI tools to grant access to lists

Extend the LTI integration so that an academic can click through from a module in their learning management system (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, etc) to Aspire and be granted appropriate access to the list in Aspire. This would be a much more effective way to grant academics List Publisher access to their lists than the clumsy email invitation system.

This functionality is available in other systems such as Echo360 Lecture Capture so it has the additional advantage of being familiar to academics who are already using this.

  8. Differentiation between Chapters and Extracts in Reading lists to enhance integration with TADC requests

We use Chapter/books in reading lists, then when digitisations are requested it is assumed they are complete chapters when we might only want a small section. or sections of the book. We would like the option to add extracts/sections here. At present we can only add one page range and we would also need multiple page ranges to be added
. When we then request a digitisation, the correct section rather than complete chapter would be selected thereby hopefully lessening the number of referrals needed in TADC.

  10. Extend ISBN API

Two extensions to the ISBN look-up API would significantly extend its utility -

    1. For each matching list return the numeric value of the priority status of the item (1, 2, 3)

-- It would be very useful to be able to display importance alongside occurence

    1. Support 'OR' requests (allowing multiple ISBNs to be added to a single call)

-- With a JSON [or other] string for each ISBN match

  12. Option to create a new blank list on the module screen

When you create a new module you see the screen where you can link an existing list. It would be very handy at this point to have a button that says 'create a new list' that contains a hotlink to the new list page.
(At present I have 'Create a new list' saved as a frequently used bookmark but this would be useful if using a different computer)

  13. Improve usability of list searches from the Aspire homepage

    This idea comprises:
    • Ability to filter or refine list searches
    • Changes the behaviour of pagination in list search results
    • The option to change the terminology on links which appear in the course of searching
    • ‘Back to the school of XYZ’
    • ‘Others’ label in the search result

*Ability to filter or refine list searches

If you’re not searching for a specific list, a search may bring back many results. With the page limited to displaying 10 results you may have to page through several screens.

Can filters be introduced to help refine this? For example bringing…

  14. Misleading messages...

When there's a connection problem between the catalogue and Aspire, the message in Aspire reads "This item is not available" - a little misleading. Would it be better to read something like "Information on this item is not available, please check the catalogue for more details"?

  15. Alternative authentication schemes for APIs

We would like to be able to directly access reports and other authenticated data from scripts without the need to web-scrape through the login process protecting them.

It would be good if the existing APIs implemented an API-key style scheme, e.g. accepting a header "Authorization: api_key <customer-api-key>" with each request.

  16. Add section information to the CSV output of the linked data API

It would be nice to add two new columns to the CSV output for the linked data API. These two new columns would contain information about the section the item is in and the parent section. This information would be enough to construct the section information from the CSV call and help to surface content in other systems (the VLE for example).

  17. Copying bookmarks

This suggestion relates to an extension of the facility to copy over bookmarks, as it would be usful to have the option to copy over the notes (associated with any bookmark), in addition to its importance level.

  18. QuickAddBookmark sequence prompts to Create/Create and add to list

QuickAddBookmark is good but would be great if, rather than just creating a bookmark, it prompts to Create/Create and add to list.

At the moment, staff need to remember to add the bookmark to their list after creating the bookmark. If they drag & drop, they may forget to Set Importance which messes with our acquisitions workflow.

With Create/Create and add to list buttons at the end of the sequence, it would be instinctive to choose the list, set the importance, add notes to student/library etc. as required.

  19. Improvements to 'Create and Add to List'

Sometimes when you bookmark a resource, the 'Create and Add to List' function doesn't capture the resource you expect it to. This seems to be a particular problem where the same ISBN appears in more than one record, e.g. an e-book record that contains the ISBN of the print version - invariably, the print version is bookmarked even when the e-book version is displayed in Aspire ready to 'Create and Add to List'. It also happens in some reprinted monograph records where the ISBN of the original is included.
