  1. suppress googlebooks preview icon if the equivalent e-book is in stock

    We have a pretty healthy collection of (paid-for) e-books - and these show in the list as they should. But if there is also a googlebook for the same title, the googlebook preview icon also shows. Not only is this confusing for the student, but it diverts them from the paid-for resource

    Since the introduction of the Online Resource button (whose appearance will also be improved – see top idea), where a resource is an ebook, the google preview is now suppressed.

  2. Allow searching and sorting across the whole report

    It would be much more efficient if we could search and sort across the whole report, not just the displayed screen

    The filters on the new reports apply to the whole report. We still have an issue with sorting but this will be resolved once we have completed the database reacrchitecture.

  3. Export whole report

    Currently, only the displayed screen is exported, not the whole report. It would be much easier and time efficient to export the whole report at once

  4. Add 'archived by' to Archived Lists report

    The Archived Lists report would be more useful with additional information, namely "archived by" and hierarchical information (being able to sort/filter it by school/department lists would be beneficial).

  5. Show course code and department in 'List Length' report results

    Would it be possible to show the course code and department in the results of the List Length report?

    The List Length report is has now been retired and has been replaced by what is currently called the All Lists report. This includes the list length information and also now includes the linked hierarchy node(s) codes for each list in the report. It is also possible to filter the report by the required hierarchy node code.

  6. Reports function - Departments with no lists attached

    In the new Reports function, there are options to show 'Modules without lists' and 'units without lists' - is it possible to have the same for 'Courses' as at Sussex we link the reading list to the Course title in the hierarchy. It would be very useful to identify which courses did not have a reading list attached.

    I’ve added a “Courses with no lists” report – let me know how you get on. I wasn’t sure from the Idea whether you meant courses or departments – but guessed you meant courses. Let me know how you get on.

  7. Move existing node to be child of another

    If you have an existing node (e.g. Module A) associated as a child to another node (e.g Faculty Y) which you want to move beneath another node (e.g. Faculty Z), it is not possible to do with current functionality.

    This is something that can occur at times, and the only way to achieve this currently is (using the above example) to delete module X after disassociating any lists, and recreate it under Faculty Z.

  9. Extend item-on-lists API to include ISSN

    For the developments that we're working on locally, building utilities to support the Acquisitions process, it would be really helpful if the items-on-lists API could be extended to include ISSNs values (as well as the current ISBN, DOI and LCN values), to support requests with the following syntax
    http://[tenancyurl]/issn/09552359/lists

    As with the other item value look-ups, an ISSN look-up should match against 'Is part of' metadata as well.

  11. Hide page header / footer when Aspire is embedded e.g. within VLE

    Allow secitons of the page (i.e. header and potentially footer) to be hidden when the Aspire page is embedded within another page e.g. inside the VLE

  12. "Borrow this" - change to "Find this"

    At least one user has interpreted the "Borrow this" button in the Availability applet to mean "Reserve this". Could this be clarified by rewording it to "Find this" instead?

  13. Free text within lists

    Could we have the facility to add free text between items in a list. This might be used eg when a listowner wants to comment on a few books without creating a section for them.

  14. Print formatted list directly from browser

    To enable academics and students to print out appropriately formatted Resource Lists for physical reference and annotation, additional print CSS configurations should be added to the appropriate Aspire page views to support a correctly formatted print presentation, rather than a simple print-out of the fully rendered web page.

  15. Library Availability and electronic content

    When electronic material records are pulled from the Library Catalogue, the $856 URL is extracted to become the URL of the resource in Talis. In the absence of Holdings data for these items, the Library Availability look-up is reported as unavailable. It might be preferable if the look-up script checked (against a set of rules) the presence of certain values in the Aspire record for the resource (such as a Web address or electronic resource format) and then not attempt the look-up, but instead present the end user a message such as: "This electronic material is available online.     We plan to include some general improvements to the library availability display, part of which will be to provide better information when the resource is an ebook or journal with an openURL link

  16. Combining Edit Functions

    At the moment there are two edit buttons with separate functions. The first (when in edit mode for the whole list) allows you to add a "Note for Student" and choose from the "Importance" drop-down menu. The second appears once an item has been selected and appears as "Edit this Resource" allowing you to add / correct fields such as Author, Title, etc. If it were possible it would be easier for users if these two edit functions were combined.

    It’s now possible to edit the item metadata right from within the list editor

  17. Share experiences on engaging with academics

    I think it would be useful to have somewhere where customers could share successes (and failures) in engaging academics with Aspire. This could be simple tips and 'funny' stories- to detailed strategies and approaches you have applied with assessments on the outcome.

    I'm not sure what form this community would be delivered in- but would be keen to know if people thought it would be valuable.

  18. Add bookmark directly to a list

    It would be useful to be able to 'refresh' My Bookmarks list from within the Edit List view as there may be an item that you want to add to a list but that you haven't yet bookmarkleted. If you move away from the list and Bookmarklet the resource- at the moment it is necessary to Save and close the list you are working on and go back into Edit List in order for the new Bookmark item to appear in the list in Edit view.

  19. Status of New Resource Lists and Acquisitions

    When a new list is created and saved- it is instantly live. In order to allow the list creator to decide when the list is finished and ready to be made public or ready for the library to acquire resources for the course- other options for status of a list are needed.

    Suggestions: Draft- Finished- Published- Archived

    Idea: A status 'Finished' could automatically generate a report to the library so that they can acquire the necessary resources for the course. This kind of report would need to include course information as well as some indication around the importance of each…

    We are in progress with a story which will allow users to edit in “draft” and only publish to the world when they choose. However this does not include an Archived state – if this is still required please raise a new idea

  20. Managing 'My Lists'

    Could My Lists view be developed to include managing lists- showing status of lists and maybe to be able to filter lists by status or by department?

    Regardless of the extent to which the library or academics are involved in the creation of lists- someone- somewhere will need to see an overview and be able to provide statistics.
