  1. Linking to Ex Libris Primo

We are changing our catalogue from Ex Libris Voyager to Ex Libris Primo next year. Currently, there is no bookmark in Aspire that recognises Primo. We are hoping that Talis will be able to develop one

We released this on the 22nd July 2011. Anyone who wants to switch their catalogue to Ex Libris Primo please contact talis support.

  2. Hide page header / footer when Aspire is embedded e.g. within VLE

Allow secitons of the page (i.e. header and potentially footer) to be hidden when the Aspire page is embedded within another page e.g. inside the VLE

    Hi Hazel,

The good news is that uou can already edit module titles if you have the node-administrator permission. Users with that permission will see an Edit link on the module page. Clicking on this link will allow you to edit the module name and description.

If you do not see this link then you probably do not have the correct permission – in this case, you need to contact the project team at Manchester.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  4. "Borrow this" - change to "Find this"

At least one user has interpreted the "Borrow this" button in the Availability applet to mean "Reserve this". Could this be clarified by rewording it to "Find this" instead?

  5. Move the Library availability applet

At the moment the Library Availability applet is on the bottom right of the screen. But it is arguably one of the most important things for a student. How about moving it to top right - or giving us the ability to customise this?

We’ve now moved this applet further towards the top of the screen, just under the “This item appears on…” area.

  6. Tenancy level custom 404 pages

Where a deep-link to a location in a Tenancy is malformed and produces a 404 error (such as http://resourcelists.ntu.ac.uk/modules/snbx/lists) Aspire you not present a generic 404 dead-end but a custom 404 capture page - including navigation options and links and the ability to report the error.

  7. Draft view - functional Preview

Liasison Libarians have requested that links in Draft lists be enable - effectively providing a 'Preview' of what the published list will look like and if its links work as expected. At present, there is no way for academics to check the veracity of their linking (or of the library look-up for their Items) ahead of publication.

  8. Draft - Published Lists: workflow options

It should be possible to have a functional/permissions combination which allows academics only to 'Submit for Library Review' and *not* to 'Publish' - enabling sites that wanted to initiate library review ahead of publication.

  9. Library Review report - list summary review

It could be extremely useful to have a List level summary (both in progress and completed) to give a snapshot view of the review process at the List level. For example:

    List 1234
    Review: Started
Number of items on list: 24

    Review outcomes:

    On order: 10
    Will not order: 2
    Existing stock sufficient: 10
    Not yet reviewed: 2

    Review started: 01/08/2010
    Last review action: someone@uni.ac.uk - 05/08/2010

In such a summary, it would be great if those outcome counts were clickable links to filtered views of the matching Items in the List (e.g. 'Show only those Items without a Review…

We’ve released an acquisitions review filtering widget – please ask support to enable this on your tenancy if you want to use it.

  10. Extend search and indexing for My Bookmarks

The search facility in My Bookmarks appears only to pull back the Title index. At a minimum it would be useful to add some other key fields (notably Author) to that search. It would be good to offer an Advanced search option too, with field specific selection choices

  11. Free text within lists

Could we have the facility to add free text between items in a list. This might be used eg when a listowner wants to comment on a few books without creating a section for them.

  12. Separator for multiple authors

Where a resource has multiple authors the names are currently separated by a comma. This could be confusing for a non-Librarian as a comma is also used between first name and last name. Could a semi-colon be to separate authors instead?

  13. Recent Changes Dynamic Link

At the moment clicking on the "Recent Changes" link to see the changes that a tutor has made to a list leads to a static link with a "Description" (e.g. "3 items added"). Could this link be made dynamic so that we can see which items have been added, etc?

  14. Search by list owner

It would be helpful as sometimes the only information we have is the lecturer's name and subject area

  15. Download Current Hierarchy

In order automate the management of the Hierarchy, it would be useful to know what items are currently on the system. Bonus points for the facility to download which have lists attached. My preverence would be to download a simple csv, in the same structure used to upload the initial list

Hi, it’s now possible to download the hierarchy in CSV format from the new All nodes report. Also, there are a suite of reports to cover the ‘empty nodes’ requirement discussed in Ian’s comment.

  16. Adding a 'has part' facility - for book chapters and journal articles

A Liaison Librarian member of our Resource List project group is finding the management of book chapters (and by implication journal articles) through the Bookmarking tool vexing.

The scenario is this: a List Publisher wants to add an entry for a book chapter for a print book held in the library. Using the browser plug-in, they bookmark the book from the library catalogue, but in the Bookmark preview screen there is only the option to indicate that this item is 'Part of...' something else, whereas what the Publisher of the List wants to do is indicate that this item 'Has…

  17. 'Website' as a resource type

'Website' is not currently available as a resource type. We would like to see this made available as academics will often refer their students to review an entire site rather than just one specific web page.

  18. Book chapter as resource type

'Book chapter' is currently unavailable as a resource type, we would like to see this made available to use when referring to a specific book chapter, or range of chapters within a book

  19. Print formatted list directly from browser

To enable academics and students to print out appropriately formatted Resource Lists for physical reference and annotation, additional print CSS configurations should be added to the appropriate Aspire page views to support a correctly formatted print presentation, rather than a simple print-out of the fully rendered web page.

  20. Automatic linking to new titles ordered

I know this idea has been discussed before but can't find it as an 'idea' as it would be a very valuable and time-saving feature for Aspire to recognise when an item bookmarked from Amazon, for example, is ordered and becomes available from the Library or is in fact already in the Library. Academics won't want to go back in to a list and bookmark and add new titles to their list neither will library staff .
