  2. Acquisitions - introduce the idea of 'states'

To enable the Acquisitions Library Review process to support more complex workflows, it could be extremely useful to introduce the idea of 'states' (or similar) to lists under Review. Customers could select how many 'states' their workflow necessitates and what labels they wish to attach to 'State 1', 'State 2' and so on (e.g. 'Liaison Librarian review', 'Link checking', 'Acquisitions processing' etc). Lists submitted for review could arrive in 'State 1' and then be moved to 'State 2', 'State 3' as this review process progresses. The view of lists under Review could then be filtered according to State (e.g. 'Show…

  3. Extend item-on-lists API to include ISSN

For the developments that we're working on locally, building utilities to support the Acquisitions process, it would be really helpful if the items-on-lists API could be extended to include ISSNs values (as well as the current ISBN, DOI and LCN values), to support requests with the following syntax
    http://[tenancyurl]/issn/09552359/lists

As with the other item value look-ups, an ISSN look-up should match against 'Is part of' metadata as well.

  5. Additional metadata fields in the Acquisitions Review screen

Our Liaison Librarian team have requested that additional metadata fields be added to the Library Review Acquisitions report (namely Author(s), Publisher and Date of Publication) "to help differentiate between items with the same title". As this has an impact on screen real-estate, perhaps a basic item citation could be formatted in a single cell?

You can now click through to an overlay screen on the acquisitions review screen to show the item metadata. Unfortunately there just isn’t enough room to show all these fields on the display table.

  6. Default to preference when "create and add to list"

Create and add to list : always default to list currently being worked on, and section

Lists are now presented in the order of the most recently worked on.

  7. Change the display of journal article details

The current display of issue, page end, page start, volume is not helpful to our users who would prefer: volume, issue, page start, page end

  8. Library availability - search alternatives link

Increase text size/create button for links to both of the following...

    • View in library catalogue

    • Search the library catalogue for other formats/editions

At the moment these links are too discrete.

This has been done as part of the Phase 4 improvements to the item view

  9. Linking to Ex Libris Primo

We are changing our catalogue from Ex Libris Voyager to Ex Libris Primo next year. Currently, there is no bookmark in Aspire that recognises Primo. We are hoping that Talis will be able to develop one

We released this on the 22nd July 2011. Anyone who wants to switch their catalogue to Ex Libris Primo please contact talis support.

  10. Hide page header / footer when Aspire is embedded e.g. within VLE

Allow secitons of the page (i.e. header and potentially footer) to be hidden when the Aspire page is embedded within another page e.g. inside the VLE

    Hi Hazel,

The good news is that uou can already edit module titles if you have the node-administrator permission. Users with that permission will see an Edit link on the module page. Clicking on this link will allow you to edit the module name and description.

If you do not see this link then you probably do not have the correct permission – in this case, you need to contact the project team at Manchester.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  12. "Borrow this" - change to "Find this"

At least one user has interpreted the "Borrow this" button in the Availability applet to mean "Reserve this". Could this be clarified by rewording it to "Find this" instead?

  13. Move the Library availability applet

At the moment the Library Availability applet is on the bottom right of the screen. But it is arguably one of the most important things for a student. How about moving it to top right - or giving us the ability to customise this?

We’ve now moved this applet further towards the top of the screen, just under the “This item appears on…” area.

  14. Tenancy level custom 404 pages

Where a deep-link to a location in a Tenancy is malformed and produces a 404 error (such as http://resourcelists.ntu.ac.uk/modules/snbx/lists) Aspire you not present a generic 404 dead-end but a custom 404 capture page - including navigation options and links and the ability to report the error.

  15. Draft view - functional Preview

Liasison Libarians have requested that links in Draft lists be enable - effectively providing a 'Preview' of what the published list will look like and if its links work as expected. At present, there is no way for academics to check the veracity of their linking (or of the library look-up for their Items) ahead of publication.

  16. Draft - Published Lists: workflow options

It should be possible to have a functional/permissions combination which allows academics only to 'Submit for Library Review' and not to 'Publish' - enabling sites that wanted to initiate library review ahead of publication.

  17. Library Review report - list summary review

It could be extremely useful to have a List level summary (both in progress and completed) to give a snapshot view of the review process at the List level. For example:

    List 1234
    Review: Started
Number of items on list: 24

    Review outcomes:

    On order: 10
    Will not order: 2
    Existing stock sufficient: 10
    Not yet reviewed: 2

    Review started: 01/08/2010
    Last review action: someone@uni.ac.uk - 05/08/2010

In such a summary, it would be great if those outcome counts were clickable links to filtered views of the matching Items in the List (e.g. 'Show only those Items without a Review…

We’ve released an acquisitions review filtering widget – please ask support to enable this on your tenancy if you want to use it.

  18. Extend search and indexing for My Bookmarks

The search facility in My Bookmarks appears only to pull back the Title index. At a minimum it would be useful to add some other key fields (notably Author) to that search. It would be good to offer an Advanced search option too, with field specific selection choices

  19. Free text within lists

Could we have the facility to add free text between items in a list. This might be used eg when a listowner wants to comment on a few books without creating a section for them.

  20. Separator for multiple authors

Where a resource has multiple authors the names are currently separated by a comma. This could be confusing for a non-Librarian as a comma is also used between first name and last name. Could a semi-colon be to separate authors instead?
