  1. Open 'View in campus edition' in a new window

    It would be really useful if when we clicked to 'view in campus edition', it opened in a new window. When processing a digitisation request, it is often necessary to move backwards and forwards between several screens (library catalogue, CLA, Aspire screen, TADC etc). It's a bit cumbersome and confusing when you have to use the back button obn the browser to flick between TADC and Aspire.

    • Allowing to attribute a note/hashtag during request input

      It would be great if while requesting a digitisation for an item, we would be allowed to add a keyword or a hashtag. This way, we could keyword a request with, for example, 'week 1' or 'week 5'. This way, in the All request area, if you could filter/search it by keyword/hashtag it would be quicker to get to more urgent requests (I feel like this would be easier and better used than the need by date). Further, you could use the hashtag for things like 'accessibility' or to connect requests with a particular academic that has certain needs or…

      • Batch digitisation requests for a course instead of individual item requests

        Our users have suggested that it would more efficient if they could select multiple items on a reading list to be digitisited, using one request form - as a batch. When there is no change to the list each time period, they find it too time-consuming to re-request each reading individually and click through all the Request Form pages. This might be achieved via a tick-able check box that invokes one form with the same date and course fields for multiple items.

        • Abiltiy to set the 'Needed anytime' request view as default on our homescreen

          The 'Needed by' field in our digitisation request form defaults to the start of our academic year (currently 01/08/2016); however some academics, when placing requests, edit this to the date their course begins, which makes sense if not aware of how the system works behind the scenes. The TADC homepage defaults to showing the first, 'Overdue' requests tab (as 1st August was 6 months ago, everything automatically appears overdue...) so we have been missing these edited requests (even if they were placed longer ago). I only recently noticed this as we are about to start Semester 2 and somebody chased…

            We are going to decline this due to the low number of votes and the time this has been raised.

            You can work around this by changing the tab to be the one you want and then saving the page in your toolbar bookmarks and then use that as your default for viewing the homepage in TADC.

            Would it be possible for digitised content URLs to be https addresses? Then they could be posted in Canvas without error messages about "insecure content from within a secure site" coming up.

            • Many lecturers want to upload a document of their own making can we have an easier way

              How can lecturers upload their own document? The only way at present is requesting it manually and fooling the system that it is a book and then asking for digitization but it would be better if there was an easier way.

                TADC is for clearing copyright compliant material so we are going to decline this. However, this is something Talis are working towards. The Talis Player will not only enable you to upload material that needs to be copyright cleared, but also other materials.

                Talis have been working with beta partners to develop this, and we will keep you up to date with the wider release of this through the usual updates (webinars, newsletters, events etc)."

              • Remove notification of new TADC admins to all admins

                When a new user requests access to TADC, all existing TADC administrators get a notification.
                Ideally we should be able to customise where these go e.g. a distribution list or not get them at all (issue along these lines raised). We could monitor these requests via online reports.
                We could use the mail system to trap these responses and send them off to someone but that is considered a bandaid by us.

                  Due to the low number of votes we are declining this idea. You can manage this by ensuring only those that need the Admin setting in TADC have it, and receive the emails, for all general users they can just have access to edit and move requests forward.

                • Differentiation between print and online journal articles?

                  Many journals, particularly in arts and crafts subjects, are still accessed by students in hardcopy rather than online (where they may not be available at all). Can we differentiate between a print and online article, to save time of students?

                    Due to low votes and length of time this idea has been open we are going to decline it. In TADC we do alert you if you hold something in print or electronic.

                  • Include notes page range in EHESS requests to BL

                    It would be useful if EHESS requests made through TADC also included details of notes page ranges in the request as currently only the chapter/extract pages get passed onto the BL.

                      We ’re unable to send this as its not supported by the BL on Demand API

                    • Link to CLA "Check Permissions" page

                      Sometimes, if you have the possibility of multiple ISBN's for one scan, it is useful to manually check the CLA site to determine what the concierge has done. Can a link be incorporated into TADC?
                      Alternatively, or additionally, it would be usfeul to be able to see from the concierge workflow, which ISBN's were checked and the outcome of each.

                        When working with Digitisation Requests, it would be helpful, after dealing with one request, to return to the list you previously had.
                        EG I would normally work on a list of requests for a specific module, after reviewing a copyright query for one, I would want to return to the list for the module and review the next one / or upload a file etc.

                        • Add vol. no. for book in multi-volume work into digitisation request form

                          Currently, when requesting a digitisation of a chapter in a multi-volume work, all of the relevant details are extracted from the bookmark to populate the request form with the exception of the number of the volume the chapter is in. This means that the person processing the request has to spend time locating the vol. no. in order to find the section to digitise. As the info is already in the bookmark it would make sense to incorporate the vol. no. as part of the digitisation request form for books and cut out this unnecessary step.

                          • Digitised Content player in Internet Explorer

                            Currently it's not possible to view digitisations in the player in IE: users are required to click the "View digitisation in a new window" button. Talis explained that it is currently not possible to embed the player in IE due to Cross Domain restrictions, but suggested I raise this as an idea to help gauge how other institutions felt about this.

                            • Request form page range to accept only Arabic or Roman numbers

                              The page range fields currently accept any letters or numbers. I understand we might have pages to digitise that are in Arabic or Roman numbers. I woudl suggest to limit the letters accepted to the letters used for Roman numbers. This will hopefully minimise the cases of requester writing any other thing than a page range.

                              • Create 'view digitisation' button at the top of the item details screen

                                In the item details screen, create a 'view digitisation' button alongside the other action buttons ('add to my bookmarks', 'export citation') that appear at the top of the screen so that all user options are clearly visible and grouped together.

                                  The changes to the new list view mean all item details are displayed in the list view so this is no longer a problem and the view online button is clearly visible against each digitised item.

                                  If this is still an area you would like to see further enhancements made please do raise again.

                                • Request multiple digitisations from a reading list at a time, using one form

                                  Our users have suggested that it would more efficient if they could select multiple items on a reading list to be digitisited, using one request form. Items such as Articles (see attached pic). This might be achieved via a tick-able check box that invokes one form with the same date and course fields for multiple items. It has been described as arduous for academics to input the same digitisation request form details for every list item separately.

                                    To increase usability and user experience, it would be good to see improvements such as:
                                    Zoom function
                                    Default zoom that a digitisation is displayed set to 100% or 'fit page'
                                    Ability to select text
                                    Less/no pixelation for text and images (when a file is downloaded there is no pixelation visible)

                                        The underlying problem here is the inability to edit request details. We have some work scheduled which will address that.

                                      • Coversheet for extracts where publisher's clearance received

                                        Where material is excluded from the CLA Licence and publisher's permission is obtained, is it possible for a coversheet to be added with wording to reflect this?

                                        Current wording is as follows: "This Digital Copy has been made under the terms of a CLA Licence" etc...

                                          We do not generate a coversheet to ensure we are not generating a generic coversheet for possible custom custom requirements from a publisher/author etc. A coversheet can be added manually. We will not be focusing on this idea.
